About the role and team

We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Assistant to join our Asbestos & Dust Diseases team in Brisbane on a permanent full-time basis.

Our team is dedicated to supporting clients and their families through some of the most challenging periods of their lives. We are passionate about delivering exceptional client care, advocating for those affected by asbestos-related diseases and occupational dust exposure, and securing meaningful outcomes for our clients. This is an opportunity to work closely with experienced practitioners in a highly specialised and rewarding area of personal injury law.

What you will be responsible for

  • Providing high-level administrative and legal support to lawyers within the Asbestos & Dust Diseases team.
  • Liaising with clients, family members, medical providers, experts and other stakeholders in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Managing client communications and obtaining instructions throughout the life of a matter.
  • Drafting legal correspondence, court documents and other matter-related documentation.
  • Coordinating medico-legal appointments and obtaining medical, employment and other evidentiary records.
  • Managing critical dates, court timetables and file administration requirements.
  • Assisting with the preparation of matters for settlement conferences, mediations and court proceedings.
  • Reviewing and organising liability, medical and quantum material.
  • Mentoring and providing guidance to junior legal support staff.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with internal processes and procedures.

The experience we are looking for

  • Previous experience as a Senior Legal Assistant, Legal Assistant or Paralegal, ideally within personal injury litigation, asbestos and dust diseases, workers' compensation or a related area of law.
  • Exceptional organisational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously while also contributing positively within a collaborative team environment.
  • A client-focused approach, with the empathy and professionalism required to support clients experiencing complex health challenges.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legal practice management systems.
  • Experience coordinating complex documentation, medical records and stakeholder communications.
  • The ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • A genuine commitment to access to justice and delivering outstanding client service.
