POSITION TITLE:             CONSULTATION MANAGER

LOCATION:                        Ingersoll, Ontario

SALARY:                              60,000 – 70,000


 

Position Summary:      Reporting directly to the General Manager, the incumbent assists in the execution of Strategic Growth initiatives in the areas of new waste management infrastructure, acquisitions, divestitures and the preparation of proposals and tenders for work.

Major (Primary) Responsibilities:

 

1. New waste management infrastructure (landfills, compost sites, transfer stations)

  • Planning, preparing and delivering public consultation programs in cooperation with project teams and consultants
  • Reviewing consulting proposals and recommending invoices for payment
  • Supervising consultants retained to conduct public consultation activities
  • Chairing community and staff committees used to develop new facilities
  • Liaising with key stakeholders including community members, partner companies, politicians, aboriginal groups, Government Agencies and the media (print, broadcast, electronic)
  • Monitoring print, electronic media for issues related to our projects and developing response programs
  • Developing and managing the content of project websites
  • Responding to community concerns in person (public and committee meetings) by telephone (toll free numbers) and in writing (email, web postings)

 

2. Acquisitions/Divestitures

  • Preparing due diligence packages for divestures
  • Reviewing due diligence packages for acquisitions
  • Coordinating/Facilitating/Participating in the negotiation process

 

3. Proposals/Tenders

  • Assessing requests for tenders/proposals with the management team to determine if they are consistent with our strategic direction
  • Reviewing requests for tenders/proposals and assisting with strategy development
  • Developing response schedule, QA/QC materials and risk assessment plans
  • Overseeing the preparation of the tender/proposal response
  • Coordinating preparation of the final submission
  • Preparing follow-up materials (responses to questions, presentation materials)


4. Divisional Marketing

  • Preparing marketing materials for the WEG division including:
    • Print (brochures, pamphlets, handouts, project sheets, advertisements, articles, papers)
    • Tradeshow/Conference display materials (posters, presentations, slideshows)
    • Website Updates and content
    • Scheduling and attend tradeshows/conferences

 

5. Miscellaneous Duties

  • Administrative duties associated with the above responsibilities

 

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required


 

Skills:  

This position requires a demonstrated degree of initiative, judgment and tact to identify opportunities, organize and prioritize tasks associated with long term projects. The incumbent must deal with colleagues, partners, Aboriginal Groups, the public, government officials and the media with tact, courtesy and diplomacy to facilitate positive relationships.

 

  • Working knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations and approvals
  • Advanced customer service, interpersonal and communication skills to promote and foster relationships with partners, the public, Aboriginal Groups, government officials and the media
  • Demonstrated numeric skills to produce accurate tender/proposal estimates, project budget costs, consulting fee estimates
  • Advanced ability to identify, analyze and respond to operational and/or community issues
  • Strong business acumen to understand the impact of decisions/actions on WEG businesses
  • Advanced ability to work independently and take appropriate action based on general direction
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills to provide information in one-on-one and group situations
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to act with tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with colleagues, partners, Aboriginal Groups, the public, government officials and the media
  • Strong ability to act proactively to avoid situations that may result in negative outcomes
  • Well developed ability to work with diverse personalities and work styles
  • Advanced written communications skills used to develop clear documents and edit/proof reading material and advertising copy is required

 

Education & Job Knowledge: 

The incumbent will require a minimum College or University degree in Marketing, Communication or a related field. Additional courses in general business, sales, marketing, media relations and environmental management would be an asset.

 

Experience:  Greater than 5 years experience in sales, marketing and/or communications.

 

Certificates, Licenses or Registration:   A valid G Registration Ontario Driver’s Licence in good standing is required for this position. 


 

Working Conditions:

Travel Requirements:  

Some travel (less than 10%) may be required. The incumbent will be required to travel to customer sites or satellite offices from time to time during the course of the working day to perform their duties. Infrequent overnight travel may also be required to attend tradeshows.

 

Equipment Used:        

The work requires the use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, fax machines, photocopiers up to 80% of the time. The incumbent must also operate a motor vehicle.

 

Physical Effort:           

This position will typically require periods of sitting with the frequent need to stand or move about the office. The incumbent would be required to occasionally kneel, stoop, bend and stretch. The incumbent will also be required to carry light to moderately heavy objects including paper, reports, files and office supplies.

 

Working Environment:

The work is generally performed in an office environment. Exposure to dust, dirt, weather conditions and other sensory attributes may be experienced from time to time while performing site visits/tours and operating a motor vehicle. Noise levels are expected to be moderate with few interruptions. The incumbent will occasionally work after regular business hours and on weekends to meet deadlines or to accommodate the needs/demands of customers and the general public.

 

Mental Concentration:

The incumbent would be exposed to situations which may cause significant mental stress. There are notable pressures from:

  • Supervising/coordinating the work of others to meet technical specifications
  • Meeting tight deadlines
  • Working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Producing accurate work that will determine success/failure of a project
  • Working with the public

 

The stress levels may temporarily disrupt the work. Working with the public may generate unpleasant reactions that may persist.
