Job Description

Our company vision: Our ground-breaking AI platform designs new material compositions based on customer requirements, then our in-house science and engineering team refine these compositions and make physical products to sell to our customers.

We are looking for a passionate Product Manager to drive the development of our materials platform. You’ll have an enthusiasm for building innovative software products that solve real-world problems.

This unique role combines product development expertise with strong project management skills to enhance our platform. You'll bridge the gap between tech, science, and commercial, ensuring the platform we build aligns with both customer needs and business goals.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to step in and take on fast-moving goals and significant responsibilities that will evolve as our company grows. You will be working closely with Chief Technology Officer Robert Forrest, the wider tech team, and with Chief Commercial Officer Nic Stirk and Chief Science Officer Jon Pillow.

What you will be doing:

  • Champion the product vision and ensure all development efforts contribute to its realisation.

  • Collaborate with, and bridge gaps between, the commercial, tech, and science teams to define and evolve the platform development roadmap.

  • Translate business goals and customer needs into clear product features and functionalities, ensuring feasibility by working closely with developers.

  • Collaborate with our commercial team to understand customer pain points and needs, and how our science & technology teams can deliver solutions.

  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify needs, trends, and opportunities, translating these into development actions.

  • Develop and manage project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.

  • Interact with customers and partners to scope out new projects, and report on the status of current work.

  • Track project progress, identify risks, and proactively develop mitigation strategies.

  • Manage dependencies between tasks and ensure timely delivery within constraints.

  • Lead product backlog refinement, prioritising features based on impact and feasibility.

  • Manage stakeholder expectations by clearly communicating realistic goals, expectations, timelines, and key milestones.

  • Track key performance indicators to measure product and company success.

Qualifications

We are looking for talented and, more importantly, passionate individuals who are motivated by the application of science and innovation to achieve net-zero materials.

If you do not think you are an exact fit but are still passionate about our mission and work we’d still like to see your application!

What we think you will need to be successful:

  • Proven ability to translate business goals and user needs into well-defined product requirements and features.

  • Strong understanding of product management methodologies (e.g., Agile) and their application in a tech environment.

  • Experience in creating and managing project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.

  • You appreciate the challenges facing deep-tech startups and are excited by the opportunity of joining an early-stage business.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience using project management tools (e.g., Jira, Miro, Confluence) to orchestrate tasks and track progress.

  • Experience with go-to-market planning.

  • Experience of working with Innovate UK/government funded projects.

  • Understanding of the commercial materials science space.

  • Understanding of software development processes.
