Job Description

As a Production Engineer within our Advanced Composites team based at Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, you will provide support to take new products through from conceptual design to production in a timely and cost-effective manner.

The ideal candidate will possess a broad knowledge of production principles for composite materials as well as manufacturing processes to deliver technical solutions on a number of projects within different sectors of industry. As a Production Engineer, the candidate will have proven experience working with engineers within a composite material-based project and bringing it to a successful completion.

Working with colleagues in Design, Production and Supply Chain, the purpose of the Production Engineering role is to ensure a concurrent approach is taken to deliver the most efficient and cost-effective solution whilst maintaining quality and delivery objectives.

The successful applicant will form part of an exciting department which covers a diverse range of activities to help shape the success of the organisation and its objectives.

Main duties are:

  • To comply with the Marshall ADG BMS (Business Management System) and LCM (Lifecycle management) processes.

  • Contribute to both PMP (Project Management Plan) and SEMP (Systems Engineering Management Plan), providing support for the production and manufacturing approach.

  • Support bid teams with the creation of concept solutions, work breakdown structures and estimates for production and manufacturing.

  • Review product concepts and detailed design solutions and recommend production and manufacturing easements that will reduce cost, simplify the process and reduce lead-time.

  • Perform Production Engineering drawing checks for new and revised parts.

  • Generate standard processes to allow Operations to manufacture and assemble the product in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Identify the requirement for jigs and fixtures and support their development in alignment with the assembly approach via Statement of Work (SoW) generation.

  • Determine the preferred Condition of Supply (CoS) for parts/components.

  • Be able to review processes and proposed process changes for validity against Process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEA) applications.

  • Communicate process changes to Operations.

  • Be able to perform or support root cause analyses related to product quality issues and support the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Review and assess new technology and develop manufacturing processes that reduce cost, improve quality or increase efficiency.

  • Develop a continuous improvement culture by supporting the implementation of lean techniques.

  • Advise on systems, facility layouts and capital equipment to enhance the product manufacturing and assembly process. Support new capital expenditure requirements, methods and commissioning as required.

  • Control own work within budget and schedule requirements.

  • Ensure correct booking to costing/budget system.

  • Contribute to own personal development plan.



  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel along with a knowledge and interest in emerging technologies.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of internal personnel and represent the department externally.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Dynamic and proactive attitude.
  • Broad knowledge of composite materials and processes.

  • Experience of aerospace component manufacturing and assembly processes within an AS9100 accredited production environment.
  • Possess demonstrable experience of working in a similar role. 
  • Ideally possess a technical qualification appropriate to the role.

Access to US technical data by employees requires prior Trade Control function approval. Clearance must be carried out against all applicable US export control authorisations.
