We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.  

The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.  

We are recruiting for a Healthcare Assistant to join our community-based team in Blackpool, North-West.

Hours: Part-time 27 hours per week (nights)

Base: within 25 miles of your home address. Travelling to the Liverpool Hospice may be required from time-to-time.

Salary: £25,272 per annum (pro rata), plus enhancements, and a whole range of Marie Curie benefits.

Working as part of our community-based team, you'll play a vital role in helping patients remain comfortable, safe and supported during the night, enabling them to stay in the place they choose to receive their care. You'll provide high-quality, person-centred care that focuses on dignity, comfort and individual needs at a time when compassionate support matters most.

As a lone worker, you'll be responsible for managing your own workload and responding appropriately to changing patient needs throughout the night. You'll deliver a range of personal and clinical care activities, including support with hygiene, nutrition, hydration, comfort and observation, while recognising when concerns need to be escalated to senior clinicians within the multidisciplinary team.

This role requires a confident, self-motivated Healthcare Assistant who is comfortable working independently in the community. You'll have a good understanding of palliative and end of life care, strong communication skills, and the ability to make sound decisions within your scope of practice while providing reassurance and support to patients and their families.

• National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care OR an equivalent alternative Level 2 Qualification.
• Minimum of 6 months care delivery experience in a Health or Social Care Environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of how to deliver person centred care and the components of open and sensitive communication
• Willingness to undertake work during the night, as advertised
• Proficient IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle
• Flexibility to work across different projects and services across the North-West, if required
