Job Description

We're seeking an accomplished Marketing & Business Development Director (part-time / freelance) to be an important part of our team. The candidate will actively identify and market to new client prospects and drive outreach efforts to generate marketing qualified leads. The role involves working closely with our sales and executive team to refine and activate a segmentation strategy to identify and prioritize prospects, connecting with potential clients using all available channels, and updating and managing our Salesforce CRM system to ensure prospects are accurately categorized in line with our marketing and outreach strategy. 

Strategy Lead & Opportunity Support 

The Marketing and Business Development Director will support engagement with prospects in the development of customized strategic replies and engagement for each opportunity, including RFI /RFP responses, introductory meetings, pitch presentations and proposal documents / presentations. As part of these efforts, the director will collaborate with the agency CEO / COO, biz dev / sales  manager and internal project management in assembling team members and assign roles / schedules for each opportunity including inbound leads, ensuring responses are in sync with available agency resources and project management priorities.  

Lead Generation / Marketing 

The role includes responsibility and oversight of strategically aligned agency marketing and sales outreach including content / social media / PR strategy, tradeshow / conference strategy (including travel and participation in key conferences), data driven programmatic campaigns, SEM/PPC and other tactics. The business development director will also collaborate with the biz dev / sales manager in response to inbound leads generated from all activities and prioritize responses appropriately. The director will also help support the business development prospecting team members to amplify these efforts.  

Analytics / Reporting:  

The director will be responsible for generating monthly and annual reports on business development effectiveness using all available data / tools to analyze business development / marketing spend relative to return within the sales funnel through conversion, while identifying areas of improvement in sales and marketing strategies.

  • Hospitals & Health Systems – Targeting Consumers 

  • B2B Healthcare – Targeting Healthcare C-Suite / Managers 

  • Medical Device / Health Tech / Life Sciences – Targeting HCPs 

  • Multicultural Healthcare / Public Health - Targeting Medi-Cal / Diverse Audiences 

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities 

• In collaboration with the sales manager and executive team, develop and execute annual strategic business plans in line with segmentation strategy to drive revenue through new business creation 

• Develop relationships and engage internal subject matter experts to support the sales strategy 

• Develop go-to-market strategies and lead strategic response for key prospect / customer meetings 

• Measure and evaluate strategic implementation against intended results. Responsible for results attained through effective execution against business development and business performance goals 

• Cultivate top to top relationships with decision makers and prospects to further company goals, negotiate key strategic issues and build the business 

• Collect and analyze vertical market research, customer research and competitive analysis 

• Create and develop executable programs, materials and processes that are driven by market and business insight 

• Ensure the successful/flawless handoff from new business sales to sales execution 

• Provide accurate forecasts and monthly business updates 

• Own all plans and strategies for developing business and achieving the company’s sales goals 

• Leads development of the sales plan and pitch  

• Prepares business development forecasts and KPI reporting for CEO / COO, for use in organizational planning, financial forecasting, budget setting and strategic planning. 

• Land and expand: build process and funnel for manual top-down reach out, onboarding, activation, and expansion 

• Evangelize the company offerings and personally help close largest deals 

• Work collaboratively across teams – Account / Project Management, Strategy, Creative, and Production  

• Establish the inbound lead requirements needed to meet sales objectives 

• Provide full visibility into the sales pipeline at every stage of development 

• Track and manage sales pipeline and account activities in Salesforce.com 

• Oversee prospecting, perform in-person presentations, lead the response to RFIs/RFPs, and close accounts 

• Lead strategy and execution for participation in industry events and conferences 

Qualifications

Requirements: 

• Minimum 8+ years Business Development Experience in marketing / advertising agency and/or professional services related field.  

• Healthcare advertising / marketing experience / existing network is a big plus 

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university 

• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal business communication / presentation, organization skills 

• Strong computer skills including PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. 

• Ability to work a minimum of 16 hours per week part-time 

Additional Information

Compensation Range: $75 - $125 hr. that the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position consistent with applicable law. The Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. The Company will not provide benefits for this role.
