Job Description

The Night Line Haul Driver is a safety-critical role responsible for the secure, incident-free transport of freight within the Manitoulin network. Operating out of the Barrie terminal, this position requires a professional who treats every mile and every pallet with a "zero-incident" mindset. You are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the network’s logistics through disciplined night-shift driving and precision freight handling.

Core Responsibilities

  • Defensive Driving & Highway Safety: Operate heavy-duty tractor-trailers with a focus on defensive driving techniques, particularly during challenging night-time visibility and variable weather conditions.

  • Pre/Post-Trip Compliance: Conduct thorough Circle Checks and DVIRs (Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports). Any mechanical or safety deficiencies must be identified and reported immediately to ensure fleet roadworthiness.

  • Safe Freight Handling: You could be required to execute the loading and offloading of trailers using forklifts and electric pallet jacks. You are responsible for ensuring proper weight distribution (axle weights) and load securement to prevent shifting or damage during transit.

  • MHE Safety: Maintain 100% compliance with warehouse safety protocols, including the use of PPE, pedestrian awareness on the dock, and safe operation of Material Handling Equipment (MHE).

  • Hours of Service (HOS) Management: Diligently manage Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) to ensure full compliance with MTO regulations, prioritizing fatigue management and rest cycles for the Tuesday–Saturday night rotation.

  • Terminal Navigation: Safely maneuver equipment within the Manitoulin Transport network and back trailers into assigned doors.

Qualifications

Technical Requirements & Qualifications

  • Licensing: Valid Class 1 (AZ) Driver’s License with an acceptable Commercial Abstract and CVOR.

  • Safety Training: Previous certification in Forklift Operation and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) is highly preferred but not necessary as in house training will be provided.

  • Physical Readiness: Ability to safely perform manual tasks (lifting, bending, securing loads) and the mental stamina required for consistent overnight operations.

  • Ability to work as a part of a team in addition to independently.
