Job Description

To manage property repairs and maintenance for the buildings and improvements at locations operated by the Manitoulin Group of Companies by performing the following duties (Other duties may be assigned as necessary):

  • Overall, inspection of buildings/ structures to determine the need for repairs/renovations
  • Plan and coordinate all installations/upgrades & refurbishments (telecommunications, heating, electricity etc.)
  • Review utilities consumption and develop systems/processes to minimize direct and associated cost.
  • Site Security: ensuring systems/processes are properly maintained and monitored (Incl. Perimeter Fencing, Security Guards, spike strips, etc.)
  • Maintenance/Operation of the following: Hydro, Water, HVAC, Gas, Building, Grounds, and Waste Disposal, Dock Levelers, Dock Doors, Generators, etc.
  • Maintenance of the exterior areas of the property i.e., Parking lots, Landscaping, Exterior walls etc.
  • Maintenance/operation of the alarm systems, sprinklers and fire exits.
  • Control activities like Trailer Parking space allocation for tenants
  • Maintenance of the on-site fuel systems
  • Contractors used for maintenance of the building, building systems & external areas.
  • Ensuring that facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health and security standards.
  • Lead ALL dealings with External Compliance Audits and Regulatory Agencies (both Municipal, Provincial & Federal) within the scope of FACILITIES related matters.

 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Post-secondary education in Facilities Management or a related field equivalent.
  • A Trade Certification in one of the following would be an asset – Electrical or Refrigeration
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, such as a front-end loader, would be an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Facility/Plant management of a medium to large sized facility – preferably in an Industrial Transportation environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Facilities Maintenance/Management and how to proactively maintain the overall health of the building(s) and equipment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion when dealing with others both internally and externally (Contractors, Auditors, Customers).
  • A proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both direct reports, peers and other Team members.
  • Strong analytical abilities coupled with effective problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and competing priorities within short time lines.
  • Effective Procurement and Negotiation skills and experience would be a critical asset.
  • Ability to function at intermediate level with MS Office programs such as Word and Excel (or Google DOCS and SHEETS) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge and ability to use other software such as Building Automation Systems (BAS) and AutoCAD or similar computer-assisted drafting programs.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as: FMP, CFM, RPA and PMP, would be an advantage
