These complications, injuries, and deaths are largely preventable. Mae provides equitable access to clinically-validated strategies and interventions supporting best-in-class maternal health outcomes.

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Product, you will be responsible for creating user-centered design solutions for our core products that support our mission. You will work closely with product, engineering, program, and marketing partners to define and deliver measurable value through design for our various users, including members and birth workers, that align with our business goals. 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Understanding our platform users and their journey through the product by engaging with them directly and often, gathering insight on the market and competitors to inform decision-making, prioritization, and strategy. 
     
  • Building solid partnerships with product management and engineering peers to drive strong solutions. Participating in strategy, discovery, refinement, and retro meetings. 
     
  • Raising the bar for visual and UX excellence and establishing a strong design culture within the company by developing, iterating, and maintaining our design system, product design, and user research process, upholding user-centered design principles across the organization. 
     
  • Using innovative problem-solving and critical thinking approaches to proactively solve a broad range of user experience problems.
     
  • Creating user scenarios, user journeys, wireframes, UI designs, and prototypes throughout the full cycle of the product development crafting contextual experiences across the platform while maintaining brand consistency. 
     
  • Facilitating collaborative working sessions, design sprints & workshops as needed for product design and development discovery; presenting concepts and/or UX solutions to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
     
  • Acting as an evangelist for our partners, advocating user experience, user journey, and needs, as well as the importance of design overall to the company
     
  • Staying up-to-date with design trends and best practices and proactively identifying opportunities to improve our products and processes.
     
  • Spending some time (~10%)  collaborating with Marketing and Programs to design visual assets (email design, postcards, etc.) to help drive product growth, engagement, and awareness.

Qualifications

 

  • 4+ years of experience in product design, with a strong focus on user experience and interaction design. Digital health experience is a plus. 
     
  • An outstanding portfolio of work showcasing your skills in visual design, typography, and, most importantly, end-to-end solutions based on customer and business needs. Proficiency with design and development tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and Jira. 
     
  • Strong understanding of user research and usability testing methodologies with a love for speaking with users, a natural inclination towards active listening, and consideration of multiple points of view
     
  • Experience using design techniques such as Flexbox and grid layouts to support the creation of clear and well-organized design documents that are easy for engineering partners to follow. 
     
  • Experience leading design projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams, adapting to feedback from both users and internal stakeholders, and developing stronger design solutions as a result
     
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts and decisions to stakeholders at all levels, and highly adept at presenting work in ways that best convey your solutions i.e. wireframes, final designs, prototypes
     
  • Entrepreneurial enthusiasm and problem solver with demonstrated ability to articulate the problem, the solution, and the approach – bringing others along through the process.
     
  • Passion and commitment to improving maternal health and birthing experience of Black mothers.

    For candidates in NYC, CA, CO, the salary range for this role is $100,000 - $150,000 annually. You may also be entitled to receive stock options. Compensation decisions will be based on qualifications and experience level.
