Job Description
The Senior Associate, Data Governance, supports the implementation and ongoing operation of the data governance framework. This role helps ensure data is managed as a strategic asset, supporting compliance, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation. The Senior Associate will work with business, risk, compliance, and technology teams to embed data governance principles and support the overall Risk Management framework. Supporting the overall Risk and Compliance Management Frameworks at MUFG.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the rollout and maintenance of the Data Governance framework.
- Support the creation and updating of data management policies and procedures.
- Help maintain the Data Catalogue and Data Taxonomy.
- Support the identification and monitoring of Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
- Assist with metadata management and data quality assessments.
- Track and help remediate data issues.
- Support data maturity assessments and reporting.
- Help maintain data ownership records and RACI matrices.
- Contribute to the development of data governance training and awareness materials.
- Support the creation of data scorecards and reports for management and committees.
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in information management, risk, business, or a related field.
- CDMP from DAMA or similar recognized qualification
Professional Experience
- 3+ years of experience in data governance, risk management, compliance, or a related field (preferably within financial services).
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and data lifecycle management.
- Exposure to data governance tools (e.g., data catalogues, data quality platforms) is an advantage.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams.
Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of data governance concepts and frameworks.
- Basic knowledge of data lifecycle management, metadata, data quality, and access management.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to draft and maintain documentation.
- Good communication skills, able to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to issue management.
