Job Description

Position Summary

The Production Operations Assistant works across 2 critical areas in the MPC pipeline. These are Render Technical Assistance (RTA), Data Operations. This broad ranging role will have a primary function in 1 of these teams but have a larger remit to support all areas of the department. It’s an exciting and challenging position for someone with a keen interest in the technical side of film and VFX. You will interact with many MPC departments and help to deliver some amazing shows. Please be aware this is not a Production role. The main functions include:

Render Technical Assistance (RTA)

  • Render queue management – ensuring jobs are completed in order of priority given by Production
  • Quality control of images, error checking and troubleshooting a wide variety of technical problems
  • Communication with Digital, Feature Production, Data Wranglers, Systems and Render Engineer departments
  • Creating reports for overnight rendering
  • Creating reports for handover to other MPC sites.
  • Scripting tools to automate common tasks and improve work flow
  • Working a shift pattern to support the global needs of the business
  • Support the Production Operations Manager as required

Data Operations

  • Actively monitoring disk usage
  • Disk resource management
  • Searching for stale / redundant data and managing the archiving or deleting process with artists
  • Sync Queue Management - ensure priority requests are actioned in a timely fashion
  • Actively monitoring the amount of waiting syncs in the syncQueue
  • Liaising with Production to ensure synctags are applied to the correct shots and synced between only the sites that require them
  • Ensuring that completed shoes are not left online after they have been delivered to the client - archiving and deleting these shows correctly
  • Restoring any reasonable request for old show data and keeping the requester up to date as to the restore progress
  • Data archival and restoration
  • Support the Production Operations Manager as required
  • Working a shift pattern to support the global needs of the business


Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • An interest in developing skills and progression within visual effect
  • At least one years' experience of using PC, Mac and Linux with some basic scripting would be an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of video formats and ways in which assets are received/delivered
  • Ability to rapidly pick up and learn new tools and techniques
  • Ability to work independantly and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced, occasionally high pressure environment
  • An interest in a service desk environment and service desk processes
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to use initiative and prioritise work loads
  • Problem analysing and problem solving
  • Willingness to do shift-work
  • An awareness of security principles and procedures
