Job Description

Position Summary

The Production Operations Assistant works across 2 critical areas in the MPC pipeline. These are the Render Technical Assistants (RTA), and Data Operations. This broad ranging role will have a primary function in 1 of these teams but have a larger remit to support all areas of the department. It’s an exciting and challenging position for someone with a keen interest in entering the technical side of film and VFX. With potential to progress further into a technical role, or into artist departments. You will interact with many MPC departments and help to deliver some amazing shows. Please be aware this is not a Production role. The main functions include:

Render Technical Assistance (RTA)

  • Render queue management – ensuring jobs are completed in order of priority given by Production, keeping in mind major show deliveries.
  • Error checking and troubleshooting a wide variety of technical problems concerning render tasks
  • Communication with Show Production, Data Wranglers, Systems, Software and Engineering departments
  • Creating reports on overnight rendering results.
  • Creating reports for handover to other MPC sites.
  • Ticket queue management – responding to work requests in a timely manner, occasional triaging of requests where appropriate.
  • Scripting tools to automate common tasks and improve work flow
  • Working a shift pattern to support the global needs of the business
  • Support the Production Operations Manager as required

Data Operations

  • Actively monitoring disk usage
  • Disk resource management
  • Data archival and restoration
  • Searching for untouched / redundant data and managing the archiving or deletion process with artists and production.
  • Ensuring that completed shoes are not left online after they have been delivered to the client - archiving and deleting these shows correctly
  • Ticket queue management – responding to work requests in a timely manner, occasional triaging of requests where appropriate.
  • Sync Queue Management - ensure requests are actioned in a timely fashion, keeping in mind show deliveries and schedules.
  • Actively monitoring the amount of waiting syncs in the syncQueue
  • Liaising with Production to ensure synctags are applied to the correct shots and synced between only the sites that require them
  • Restoring any reasonable request for old show data and keeping the requester up to date on the restore progress
  • Working a shift pattern to support the global needs of the business
  • Support the Production Operations Manager as required

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • An interest in developing skills and progression within visual effects.
  • At least one years' experience of using PC, Mac or Linux
  • Knowledge of basic scripting would be an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of video formats and ways in which assets are received/delivered
  • Ability to rapidly pick up and learn new tools and techniques
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced, occasionally high pressure environment
  • An interest in a service desk environment and service desk processes
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to use initiative and prioritise work loads
  • Problem analysing and problem solving
  • Willingness to do shift-work
  • An awareness of security principles and procedures
