Job Description

In the role of Director Accounting, you will be a part of MLSE’s multifaceted and engaging Finance team, reporting directly to the Vice President Financial Reporting & Controls. You will oversee the accounting function for MLSE's business operations, leading a team of accounting professionals. Beyond accounting expertise, you will be instrumental in influencing business decisions, collaborating with executives, and championing a positive organizational culture.

  • Oversee the accounting function for MLSE’s business operations.
  • Lead a team of 13 accounting professionals.
  • Ensure timely financial close, with a high degree of accuracy, across multiple business lines.
  • Ensure timely completion of month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Oversee accounts receivable process, with a heavy focus on timely collections.
  • Work with the different lines of business to review significant account variances and acquire explanations.
  • Support quarterly Audit Committee and Board package preparation.
  • Contribute to and support the annual year end audit process, and contribute to the financial statement preparation including supporting information for notes.
  • Provide support in the coordination of external auditor requests.
  • Lead special projects and perform analysis on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Lead training and support of accountants.

Qualifications

  • You have earned a post graduate degree or diploma in Business Administration, Finance or Commerce.
  • You have a minimum of 5-8 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • You are designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).
  • You are highly analytical and detail-oriented, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • You are able to look for opportunities to simplify and automate processes.
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • You possess a keen ability to build and lead effective working relationships with other departments.
  • You demonstrate initiative and can work independently and as part of a team.
  • You possess outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to independently lead and prioritize work activities and inputs.
  • You have an outstanding understanding of MS Office and are a wizard with MS Excel.
  • Your experience with Oracle Cloud ERP and Salesforce CRM makes you an asset.
  • Your knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency’s Receipting and Books and Records rules helps you stand out from the rest.
