Job Description

As a member of the Raptors Leadership Team, the Vice President, Basketball Operations for the Toronto Raptors will primarily oversee all aspects of the Toronto Raptors Basketball Operations department, including team operations, finance, special projects and team roster building. Reporting directly to the President of the Toronto Raptors requires a broad strategic mindset, thought leadership, executive presence, strong analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Location: OVO Athletic Centre 

  • As part of the leadership team, continually enhance a positive, engaged culture and ensure that the team’s values and expectations are upheld by all members of the organization.
  • Lead the Basketball Administration and Team Operations staff to ensure the team is delivering outstanding service and operating within the guidelines of Raptors and MLSE mission.
  • Manage all administrative and operations projects across the organization like venue improvement, Summer League, staff development plans, etc.
  • Provide strong leadership, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Develop team initiatives and processes including recruitment and selection, professional and leadership development, recognition, etc.
  • Oversee the annual fiscal budget planning for the team and track unbudgeted expenditures and ensure on-time payment of invoices and operating expenses.
  • Ideate and execute long-term and capital projects, such as venue enhancement and player and staff experience, while ensuring cross-functionality and representation of all team needs.
  • Assist Front Office basketball decision- making, including roster transactions, draft picks, free agent signings, and organizational competencies.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by General Manager and President.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business or related field required. An MBA or relevant post-graduate/real-world experience is a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in professional or high-level amateur sports settings (college, professional or semi-pro level) is required.
  • Experience working in team operations for a sports organization is preferred.
  • A passion for basketball is a must.
  • A track record as a team-builder and business collaborator and experience managing highly-confidential information.
  • A self-starter, able to manage time and prioritize initiatives to meet deadlines.
  • Significant experience in delivering programs and projects, from conceptualization to implementation.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-departmental budgets, projects, and people, with excellent interpersonal skills – both written and oral - and a commitment to team development.
  • Ability to create, communicate, and implement a long-term vision, while achieving milestone goals and keeping your department and the overall team focused on the organization’s ultimate objective.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Commitment to irregular hours, occasional travel, a flexible schedule and fluid working environment.
  • Ability to travel internationally is required.
