Job Description

We are looking for a Manager of Community Engagement to lead a portfolio focused on outreach, community engagement and operational excellence at MLSE LaunchPad. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with youth, building connections within community networks, and using sport as a tool for positive youth development. The candidate must function effectively in a collaborative youth-focused environment, work closely with staff from other departments within MLSE LaunchPad, MLSE Foundation, MLSE, and interface effectively with public, private, and not-for-profit partners.

As an integral part of the MLSE LaunchPad team, this Manager will provide direction, management, and consultation for all community engagement functions within MLSE LaunchPad including volunteerism, outreach, and brand engagement moments. They will lead the member services team and own a youth engagement strategy that supports our annual growth targets.

In this role you will report into the Director of Partnerships & Engagement and will have two team members reporting directly to you: one Community Engagement Coordinator and one Member Services Coordinator.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Manage the development and implementation of MLSE LaunchPad’s youth outreach activities including community events and marketing activations.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with community agencies and stakeholder groups to maximize the use of MLSE LaunchPad.
  • Play a leading role in connecting pathways between three wings of community programming: MLSE LaunchPad, MLSE Foundation and Community Sport Programming.
  • Manage MLSE LaunchPad’s youth engagement strategy with a focus on recruiting youth into MLSE LaunchPad programs, increasing memberships, and building community connections.
  • Design and implement a strategic plan for volunteer engagement and manage supporting resources including policies & procedures, data management, and feedback collection + reporting.
  • Lead a vision for growing and increasing the effectiveness of our Youth Advisory Council.
  • Lead a membership services team with front desk staff to ensure we are creating a positive and impactful member experience both in person and through membership communications.
  • Support all administrative aspects of outreach and engagement activities including hiring support for part-time staff and managing an annual budget.
  • Develop and own a process to provide timely reports on youth engagement numbers, outreach initiatives, and volunteer integration.
  • Annually assess the effectiveness of youth engagement initiatives.

  • You believe in the power of sport and you’re an advocate for the importance of sport engagement in the lives of youth.
  • You have a good understanding of the communities we serve and familiarity with applying anti-oppressive principles to your work.
  • You are comfortable working across partners, participants and community members of varying ages, cultural backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • You have strong customer service skills including flexibility and patience to deal with varied clientele in a professional manner.
  • You have a strong ability to relate to individuals and nurture talent.
  • You have experience leading a team: you enjoy supporting and coaching staff, and you understand how to operationalize decisions.
  • You lead by example and are confident turning ideas into actionable strategy.
  • You are a clear, confident, and thoughtful communicator with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have an understanding of core principles in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
  • You have experience working on a diverse portfolio of projects and you are comfortable both leading strategic projects and working through practical details
  • You are comfortable managing a budget and ensuring alignment with forecasts and expectations.
  • You are a creative problem solver and are well-organized: you create efficient systems that enable you to work quickly, solve problems proactively, and produce exceptional quality work.
