Job Description

The Team Operations Specialist will be part of a team of people who deliver best in class service directly to players and staff of the Toronto Raptors.  Over the tenure of this position, the specialist at different times be responsible for equipment, travel and team services.  The goal of this position is to create a multi-dimensional team of operations experts who can perform roles interchangeably.  While building a base foundation of team operations, this position will also be challenged to professionally develop skills to advance them within the organization or industry beyond team operations.

 

Responsibilities

This role will only be accountable for a portion of the listed responsibilities at any one time.  A group of team operations specialists will cover the full list of responsibilities.

  • Develop, maintain and evolve team operating guidelines in areas of equipment, travel and team services.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with third party vendors to adequately outfit, accommodate in-season travel and onboard Toronto Raptor players and staff to the team. Examples include but are not limited to athletic gear, hotel partners, transportation companies, immigration officials and real estate agents.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Team Equipment:

  • Complete annual order of all equipment aligned with latest trends and technical specifications of industry.  Ensure on time delivery and clearance of customs to meet team needs.
  • Ensure requirements of NBA on-court uniform standards are met and enforced.
  • Manage game-day team attendants to assist both home and visiting locker rooms.
  • Organization of equipment and items needed for team on-court while at practice facility, arena, and travelling during season
  • Full laundry service of player/staff practice, and game gear for home and visiting teams.
  • Coordinating ordering and stocking locker room supplies and signage in home and away team spaces.

Team Travel:

  • Assign and track team ticket allotment at home and away arenas.
  • Prepare and execute annual team travel schedule, including but not limited to flight, hotel, ground transportation, immigration, schedule and menus.
  • Coordinate training camp and preseason schedule with internal and NBA league partners.
  • Manage team travel budget including timely receipt, review and processing of vendor invoices.

Team Services:

  • Develop relationships with local GTA resources to create a network for Toronto Raptor players and staff to utilize in acclimating to a new community. 
  • Serve as resource for families of players and staff on game night and for all relocation needs.
  • Plan and execute team building and family events at home and on the road.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports and/or Business Management or Event Planning is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in operations for a sports organization (college, professional or semi-pro level; basketball experience is preferred) in the fields of Team Operations, Player development or Business Operations is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with Toronto market and Toronto Raptors Basketball Team is an asset, but not a requirement for role.
  • Experience in team operations including creating a strategic plan and executing within a specified timeline and budget.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, creative self-starter capable of working on a team and independently.
  • A high level of initiative and follow-through, ability to creatively find timely solutions to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Ability to sort through multiple variables quickly in order to properly prioritize projects in a concise time frame.
  • Experience working with professional athletes
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong ability to facilitate and collaborate with multiple groups and departments
  • Demonstrated ability to build and develop professional relationships both inside and outside of the organization
  • Possesses real passion for high quality, detailed, efficient work and outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word ) and SAP Concur
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and travel 50% of the time
