Job Description

The Assistant Manager of Team Security is responsible for providing administrative and departmental support to the Director of Team Security. This position will be responsible for the management and execution of safety and security programs designed to protect the Toronto Raptors players’ assets, physical property and sensitive information. The incumbent must implement policies, procedures and training to ensure that the staff follows with both the Toronto Raptors and NBA security requirements.

  • Maintains necessary security levels and monitors players off court activities both at the Toronto Raptors practice facility, Scotiabank Arena and during team travel;
  • Provides guidance to players enabling them to avoid activities that could be detrimental to the team and the organization;
  • Maintains an optimal security level for matters associated with team travel, while also complying with the security requirements of the NBA and the Toronto Raptors;
  • Travels with the team and builds relationships with the players to educate and assist in their development, professionalism and maturity both on and off the court;
  • Conducts risk assessments and advises the players on personal, family and residential security matters;
  • Assists the Player Wellness and Development team with the creation of player programs as required by NBA league rules and regulations;
  • Conducts background investigations on potential and current NBA players and coaches
  • Assists Human Resources on background investigations on potential hires;
  • Adhere to MLSE service standards, policies and procedures
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Criminal Justice, Business or related field (or equivalent related experience);
  • 5 to 10 years of prior investigative and private security experience    
  • Must have a valid Security License (Bill C-159)
  • Must be available to travel throughout the year on away games and other work-related road trips; must have valid travel documents (drivers license and passport)  
  • Must have an uncompromised ability to protect the confidentiality/privacy of others and company documents and records;
  • Strong knowledge of cyber security and social media security
  • Certified in CPR, First Aid, and Smart Serve
  • Vast knowledge of the Toronto club and entertainment areas and venues
  • High level of proficiency using Microsoft Office suite of tools and presentation skills
  • Must have strong conflict resolution and problem solving skills;
  • Must have the ability to maintain an impeccable professional appearance;
  • Must possess a strong ability to manage one’s own time and prioritize task when given clearly defined goals and objectives;
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate uncompromised judgment and discretion with regard to interpersonal relationships;
  • Must have a strong sense of self-awareness and emotional intelligence;
  • Must have truly outstanding customer service skills, solid judgment and interpersonal effectiveness;
  • Be flexible and reliable team player, both within own department and within company as a whole;
  • Strong communication skills: must be comfortable with engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills;
  • Able to identify problems, their sources, and their potential solutions while continuing to successfully conduct day-to-day operations without interruption;
  • Must have a strong command of reasoned, measured decision-making based upon analyzing the pros and cons of each potential decision to be made;
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
