MLSE LaunchPad is a 42,000 sq. ft. Sport For Development facility where youth facing barriers use sport to recognize and reach their potential. Supported by MLSE’s professional sports teams- the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and Toronto FC, it is the first facility of its kind in North America. As a collaborative space promoting social change by leveraging sport, education and research, programming is focused on four pillars: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Ready for School and Ready for Work. About the Position
You’ll be working on a dynamic, self-starting and energetic Partnerships & Programs team that collaborates with over 16 partners to serve over 2000 kids every year! This team prides itself on putting ‘youth first, always’ and working with our partners to create meaningful experiences for the young people we serve. As Employment Counselor you’ll get the opportunity to further grow the impact of MLSE LaunchPad Ready for Work programming by supporting the administration, evaluation and development of the portfolio.

What you’ll be doing:

• Prepare youth for employment through one to one coaching and motivation
• Assist in identifying barriers to employment and counsels youth on proper resume writing and job searching techniques
• Facilitate pre-employment workshops in life skills, job search, work readiness, job maintenance and appropriate workplace behaviours
• Advocate on behalf of youth to community employers, services and programs that will support their employment goals
• Consult with MLSE LaunchPad team and collaborative partners to find appropriate Ready for Work programs to support employment retention
• Support youth success in Ready for Work programs through case note management and engagement surveys
• Support the execution of Ready for Work programming such as workshop series, work readiness trainings and paid fellowship programs
• Develop internal status reports, progress, feedback and outcomes of program activities
• Develop educational and engagement materials to support programming objectives
• Understand the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
• Support all administrative aspects of programs, including registration, budget, staffing, scheduling, program logistics and other related duties as necessary

You’re a great fit for this job if:

• You have experience facilitating work readiness or employment programs
  • You completed a post-secondary education in Employment Counselling, Social/Community Work, Social Services or related field. You have strong experience with counselling practices, file management and group facilitation.
• You are a creative thinker.
  • You bring forward exciting ideas for new and impactful programming. You can imagine the multiple ways participants engage with a program, and use data and research to support your thinking.
• You are collaborative.
  • You work well in a highly collaborative environment. You are ready to lead and to pitch in. You’re excited to collaborate with partners and participants on projects both big and small.
• You are well organized.
  • You create efficient systems that enable you to work quickly, solve problems proactively, and produce exceptional quality work. You’re confident using tools like Microsoft office to support your productivity, and are comfortable adapting to changing priorities as needed. You’re comfortable working with a budget and managing program logistics.
• You are community-minded.
  • You have good understanding of the communities we serve and aspire to create equitable opportunities for participation. You have familiarity with applying anti-oppressive and anti-racist principles to your work, and engage in continued learning in these areas. You are knowledgeable of community services and resources available in the LaunchPad neighbourhood, and familiar with youth labour market as well as apprenticeship, fellowship and other training opportunities.
• You are a clear, confident and thoughtful communicator.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills. You are comfortable working across partners, participants and community members of varying ages, cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. You’re equally ready to add in to a meeting with our youth advisory or governmental funder.

Extra things that can support your application

• You completed career testing certificates such as, Level B, Life Skills
• Your program facilitation experience in work readiness/employment programming for youth facing barriers
• You’ve previously completed or worked on grant-funded project that requires funder reporting
• You speak a second language
