Job Description

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Basketball and Franchise Operations

As part of MLSE’s NBA Gatorade League team (affiliate of the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club), this position will assist with the development, implementation and management of the operational functions of the team including day to day activities, contract execution, staff onboarding, financial planning and additional projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Embed operational plans, tactics and resolution of issues on the ground
  • Work with internal clients (Ticket Sales & Service, Communications, Public Relations, Global Partnerships, Marketing, and Basketball Operations) on core operational issues impacting Raptors 905
  • Event management including but not limited to organizing people and activities, scheduling, logistics, account reconciliation, and evaluation
  • Organize, attend, support and record minutes of office management committee meetings
  • Ensure staff are onboarded in accordance with Raptors 905 and MLSE protocols
  • Manage player housing needs
  • Accountable for achieving KPI’s and objectives for Finance, Marketing and Global Partnerships
  • Assist in handling an operating budget for each year that encompasses staffing, physical and monetary resources needed to progress on stated mission and goals
  • Supervise the reconciliation of daily accounts; month end projections
  • Manage per diem for the traveling party including expense money and handling all aspects of distribution and tracking expenses
  • Assist with contract management and special project assignments
  • Compile, record and file documentation daily of team activities, status reports and events
  • Embed processes to ensure collaboration between supporting functions and external suppliers/customers
  • Work in conjunction with the Raptors, MLSE and the league in supporting social justice platforms and assist with the creation and delivering of EDI-related initiatives to better the organization's understanding of inequality and bias that will lead to effective actions to take to create positive change
  • Facilitate or provide trainings and open dialogues on diversity-related issues (e.g., SafeZone trainings, lunch and learn series on various topics)
  • Work with internal clients (Ticket Sales & Service, Communications, Public Relations, Global Partnerships, Marketing, and Basketball Operations) to guide the strategic integration of team assets on core business objectives impacting Raptors 905
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Have strong communication skills, able to relate and empathize with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and nationalities
  • Have an innovative approach, proactively looking for original concepts to better the organization's understanding of inequality and bias
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills and time management.
  • Must have a positive and professional working demeanor and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the coaching staff, team members, support staff, and other individuals associated with the Raptors 905.
  • A university degree in sports management and administration, business management administration, or a related field
  • Project or change management experience highly valued
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience – industry experience is an asset, but not required
  • A strong management and coordination skillset with a good understanding of operations
  • Ability to engage, establish, maintain and nurture excellent relationships with wide array of people at multiple levels of management including various executive level partners, players and coaches, and influential community leaders
  • A thorough understanding of the NBA and NBA G League; Knowledge of the sports industry; including operations of the Toronto Raptors and Raptors 905, NBA and NBA Gatorade League, and MLSE Partnership
  • Experience working in a Client Facing and Corporate Function driving efficiencies and improving client relationships
  • Demonstrates the ability to and take direction well while also displaying strong personal initiative
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a media environment
  • Good planning and critical thinking skills
  • Must have advanced Excel and Modelling skills, excellent PowerPoint skills
  • A “Can Do”, positive, winning approach, incorporating integrity, confidentiality and discretion when required
  • Influential – ability to bring people along with them, both supporters & detractors
  • Works confidently, takes initiative and drives self & others
  • Experience in dealing with a variety of complex, challenging and new situations & people

  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required
  • Availability and willingness to travel with the team (if requested) and be available for all home games
