Job Description
Your new role
In the global international headquarters team, you will drive the development of sustainable cost driven packaging for Own Brand products across METRO Cash & Carry International. As a technical packaging expert, you will act as the central point of contact for 21 countries, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with METRO’s Own Brand strategies.
Where your expertise is needed
- Develop new Own Brand packaging solutions that meet professional customer needs, are compliant, and cost‑efficient for Food and Near‑Food Own Brand products, in collaboration with suppliers and cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Lead optimization projects to harmonize existing packaging, drive cost savings, and improve customer experience and the end‑to‑end supply chain.
- Ensure implementation of packaging aligned with PPWR requirements, including reduction measures, recyclability, recycled content targets, and eco‑design principles, working closely with cross‑functional stakeholders and suppliers.
- Collaborate with all 21 METRO countries, serving as the competence center partner for packaging‑related topics.
- Coordinate the collection, management, and analysis of packaging data within the specification data management platform.
- Oversee regulatory compliance assessments for packaging materials and formats.
- Support packaging complaint and incident management, ensuring timely root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
Qualifications
What we are looking for
- University degree in Packaging Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a comparable qualification, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in retail, FMCG, or the packaging industry.
- Knowledgeable of European packaging legislation, standardization, food contact requirements, packaging materials, and eco‑design principles.
- Experience in collaboration with external laboratory and packaging testing.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiences.
- High proficiency in MS Office, including working with data sets, conducting statistical evaluations, and creating professional PowerPoint presentations.
- Proven ability to collaborate within cross‑functional teams and manage projects independently.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Willingness to travel (up to 10%) across Europe.
