Job Description


Internship / Master Thesis Opportunity - Space Industry Luxembourg (m/f/o):

High-Speed (10 Gbit/s) Data Bus for Advanced LEO Satellite


Internship Objectives:

To identify and test technical solutions enabling 10 Gbit/s data transfers within an advanced
small satellite. The activity shall consider:

  • Protocol selection compatible with Xilinx Zynq-7000 SoC series
  • Design, implementation and testing of the HighSpeed-links on an evalboard setup


Internship Activities:

  1. Set the project framework by understanding the need(s), context(s) and constraints
  2. Perform bibliographic and State-of-Art (SoA) technical surveys about related spaceborne and terrestrial technologies, products, standards, processes and life-cycles
  3. Identify the main contributors to the problem(s) posed
  4. Identify and investigate on possible HW and/or FW/SW solutions to the problem(s) posed
  5. Propose and select one or more concept(s) to be further detailed/designed/analysed
  6. For the selected concept(s) perform the necessary engineering activities up to validation and verification of suitability
    o Implement FW high speed protocol on ZynQ 7000 series evalboard
    o Define and build prototype to assess performance of the selected protocol
    o Test protocol on prototype
  7. Document and present to internal audience the problem and its resolution


Expected Internship Outcome:

  • Internship Report/Master Thesis

Qualifications

Internship Candidate Profile:

  • Student knowledge / interest in:
    o FPGAs
    o MATLAB/Simulink (enables to autocode HDL)
    o Digital Signal Processing
    o Error correction codes
  • Languages: Good English language skills (spoken and written)
  • EU citizenship or relevant permissions for staying and carrying out an internship in Luxembourg

  • Flexible time model is possible, subject to respective agreement.
