Senior Satellite Mechanical Design Engineer - Space Industry Luxembourg (m/f/o)

In the course of developing new satellites, OHB LuxSpace is recruiting an experienced Satellite Mechanical Design Engineer with 10+ years working experience.

The position offers shaping actively the design of current and future LuxSpace satellites and electronic units.

Job Profile:

An experienced mechanical design engineer is required to complement the mechanical, thermal and propulsion team at LuxSpace. A solid background in mechanical design of satellite structures, satellite accommodation and electronic unit housing design with experience from several satellite projects, preferably microsatellite projects, is a must.

Tasks to be performed:

  • Satellite accommodation
  • Finding the best compromise in placement of equipment within a satellite structure, fulfilling their accommodation needs, in coordination with system and subsystem engineers
  • Satellite mechanical design
  • Designing the satellite structure, in coordination with the mechanical analysis engineer
  • Design of mechanical elements, including mechanisms
  • Design to performance, cost and production
  • Production drawings preparation
  • Electronic unit housing design and analysis
  • Mechanical and thermal design of housing for electronic boards
  • Iteration of the housing design with electronic engineers
  • Mechanical and thermal analysis of electronic units
  • Design to performance, cost and production
  • Production drawings preparation
  • Production follow up
  • Technical supplier management for satellite structure, thermal hardware and electronic equipment
  • Definition and organization of work packages
  • Review of interface control documents
  • Review of mechanical analyses and test documentation
  • Review of thermal analyses and test documentation

Qualifications


Required Skills and Background:

  • Specialized knowledge in the fields of satellite structures design, satellite accommodation and electronic unit design and analysis. Knowledge gained in a professional position in space industry, preferably with focus on micro satellites.
  • Excellent in mastering CAD software (e.g. Solidworks, CATIA)
  • Advance knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (HYPERWORKS, NASTRAN) and orbital thermal analysis (ESARAD/ESATAN, THERMICA) software
  • Excellent conceptual and analytical skills
  • Experience in generating requirements and working based on requirements

Candidate Profile:

  • University degree (Master/Diploma/PhD) or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a relevant field
  • At least 10 year of experience in phase B/C/D satellite projects
  • Good communication capabilities, analytical sense, priority setting
  • Methodical work-approach, results-oriented
  • Self-motivated; taking responsibility and being proactive
  • Hands-on mentality and experience
  • Ability to work and interface with a multinational team
  • Willingness to work flexible in line with project needs and schedules
  • Willingness to travel for business and to be part of a collocated team for a limited time (e.g. at test facility)
  • Languages: Good English language skills (spoken and written), German and/or French knowledge considered an asset
  • EU citizenship or work permission Luxembourg
