Job Description

This position combines administrative functions and Medical Assistant responsibilities. Administratively the incumbent schedules appointments, checks patients in and out, makes confirmation calls as well as makes pre and post visit calls regarding open referrals, procedures, and insurance. Under the direction of a Lead Medical Assistant and medical provider, the Admin/Medical Assistant provides direct patient care for the Specialist Providers. The Medical Assistant is clinically knowledgeable about practices, protocols, procedures, and clinical flow in a multidisciplinary practice. The Admin/Medical Assistant works collaboratively with the Lead Medical Assistant and other disciplines to ensure an integrated approach to patient care and maintains constant communication among the members of the health care team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Provides direct and non-direct patient care based on practical and on-the-job training.
• Greets and escorts patients to assigned room or area.
• Prepares the patient for exam.
• Communicates with patients, visitors, and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner.
• Communicates to Clinical Leadership staff when unable to complete requested task or procedure.
• Performs non-direct patient care activities, such as performing supply inventory and stocks medical supplies in exam rooms.
• Assists with managing referrals and scheduling for specialty providers.
• Translates for providers according to translator standards.
• Performs dictation for the provider as needed.
• Performs refrigerator temperature monitoring with daily checklist
• Maintains infection control practice at all times, especially with patients requiring isolation/reverse precautions.
• Maintains universal precautions in handling blood/body fluids.
• Maintains TB precautions according to clinic policy.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent required. 

Current Medical Assistant Certificate required.

Current CPR BLS certification required. 

Bi-Lingual applicants strongly desired: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Swahili, Khmer.
