Job Description
- Manage inventories of products and supplies via the Vertical Crush Forecaster (VCF) to help plan forward sales needs/availability (free to sell) and oil needs.
- Attend weekly quality meeting.
- Work with customers on quality complaints.
- Complete trade sheets and amendments.
- Sign up new customers including credit applications.
- Build customer relationships.
- Maintain daily communication, supports logistical services, and assists with accounting issues with suppliers and customers.
- Work with plant operations, lab, and logistics teams in order to provide the best customer service possible.
- Negotiate forward sales contracts to buyers of refined glycerin and biodiesel.
- Learn about markets.
Additional Responsibilities
- Gathers news, statistics and information related to individual commodity supply and demand from customers and trade sources, and distributes that information to the remainder of the group to support overall strategic trading/positioning (i.e., contributes to research function)
- Helps manage receivables and facilitates innovative methods to keep accounts receivable and average number of days to pay at a minimum
- Identifies, qualifies and captures new business; develops and contributes to customer/supplier list.
- Potentially participate in crop tours to assess conditions and potential yields to anticipate markets.
- Weekend work.
- Customer visits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience
The following is the basic qualifications:
- Supply chain risk management & inventory management
- Strong understanding of major transport modes and their scope.
- Direct verbal and written experience managing customer expectations, demands, and resolving complaints
The following is the preferred qualifications:
- Experience in liquid bulk logistics including the operation and maintenance of bulk tank trucks.
- Familiarity with vegetable oils, or liquid food grade products
- Financial acumen with regard to logistics budgeting, freight value estimation, network modeling, and forecasting.
- General understanding of food grade hygiene procedures and quality documentation.
- Understanding of import/export processes including ISF process, FDA pre notify process, and customs clearance.
- Familiarity with freight invoice payment, claims settlement, and procurement events/bid processes.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
The following are required:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Professionalism when interacting with customers over the phone, email, and in person.
- Attention to detail is critical
- Negotiation skills with vendors or customers
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software, preferably MS Word, Excel and SharePoint
Additional Information
Working Conditions
- Primarily climate-controlled office environment. Periodic visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure during such visits to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions. Interacts closely with personnel in other departments and company locations, interact closely with middle and senior level management, domestic travel to visit customers required (up to 20% at times). Call-ins or the extension of regular working hours are occasionally needed to complete time-sensitive projects or respond to emergencies. Limited weekend work is required.

Exercises judgment, within established parameters, to arrive at appropriate logistics decisions and actions for the purpose of adding value to the firm; assesses risk pertaining to logistics
