Job Description
Join Louis Dreyfus Company as a Soybean Oil Trader and play a critical role in shaping the commercial success of one of North America's most important edible oil businesses.
In this highly visible trading and commercial role, you'll serve as the primary point of contact for key refined soybean oil customers, developing strategic partnerships while driving profitable growth across the business. You'll combine market intelligence, customer engagement, risk management, and trading expertise to develop sales strategies, execute transactions, and identify opportunities that create value for both customers and LDC.
Working closely with operations, logistics, credit, quality, and global trading teams, you'll help ensure the seamless movement of product from production to customer delivery while providing insights that influence pricing, hedging, and commercial decisions. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on the business while gaining exposure to the broader oilseeds, edible oils, and ingredients markets.
This position is located in our Wilton, CT location, we operate on a hybrid schedule (4 days in office/1 remote).
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Lead US refined soybean oil salesperson / marketer overseeing key customer relationships
- Onboards new customers, defines quality and documentary needs as well as credit requirements
- Develops & implements refined soybean oil sales strategy to maximize commercial margin
- Maps key customer accounts, defines target customer sales volumes and tracks open demand against free to sell
- Maintains detailed knowledge of customer operating dynamics, logistics requirements & supplier preferences
- Identifies opportunities to trade around cash hedges and utilizes oilseeds calendar spreads to manage asset risk
- Provides market intelligence to guide company hedge positioning, pricing and risk management decisions
- Actively manages discussion around asset oil inventories factoring in production & inbound/outbound logistics
- Coordinates/communicates customer shipment requirements with logistics and operations team
- Guides balance of oilseeds & FFS teams in merchandising / sales strategy for refined soybean oil
- Identifies cross-selling opportunities within LDC’s broader edible oils & ingredients portfolio
- Ensures product line members are kept abreast of market driving developments
- Guides US oil consumptive analysis ensuring adequate interpretation and distribution to global team
- Challenges global oilseeds complex balance sheets and understands influence on US S&Ds
- Ensures timely entry of trades into position management system and validates daily positions & P&Ls
- Develops and maintains regular commercial relationships with 3rd parties to expand information flow
- Distributes regular market updates via chats recapping US trade highlights and market intel
- Assists in strategic business analysis for internal and external implementation
- Tuned into all CBOT, NOPA, trade rule developments
- Participates in strategic planning discussions
Qualifications
Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business discipline, economics, or statistics
- Valid Driver’s License
Experience
Basic qualifications:
- 5/7+ vegetable oils sales in North America
- Current vegetable oil customer relationships
- Competency with oils futures hedging, position and P&L management
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
