Job Title: Technical Writer I

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Manager, Technical Communications

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Technical Writer is responsible for developing high-quality documentation including Operator Manuals, Maintenance Instructions, Troubleshooting Guides, and Lockout/Tagout documents using a content management system to facilitate internal and external customer product familiarity.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Functional & Technical Skills

  • Write a variety of technical manual types based on complex engineering design and maintenance information.
  • Apply structured authoring techniques, tools, standards, and processes to create documentation deliverables.
  • Track and report the progress of projects against defined schedules.

Operational Excellence

  • Work with engineering to plan, develop, and deliver product documentation on-time.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS in Technical Communication, Engineering, or related area

Experience: 0+ years of experience in technical writing; familiar with structured authoring. Experience with desktop publishing and illustration software

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of business software including Microsoft Office suite
  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering or fluid power concepts, including hydraulics and compressed air

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiar with Component Content Management Systems, preferably DITA/XML.
  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (STE) standards

  • Current and prior relevant employment experience will be verified to confirm the candidate meets the minimum required years of experience for the position.
  • Post-secondary education at the associate degree level or higher will be verified, including degree(s) earned and dates of completion.

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.
