Job Description

Locus Robotics is seeking a Director, Machine Vision & Robotics for its Advanced Products Group (APG). APG is a forward-thinking cross-functional group that evaluates product opportunities with 2–4-year roadmaps using emerging technologies.   

As Director, Machine Vision and Robotics, you will architect vision solutions for robotics control and build a high-performance team, deploying innovative technology to address real-world logistics challenges.  

This role is based out of our Wilmington, MA office.  Alternate locations include Kitchener, ON area or remote in the contiguous US or Canada. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and build classification models and supporting architectures for object identification, segmentation, and grasping.  
  • Streamline and optimize models onto limited resource platforms with strong performance obligations. 
  • Coordinate development and research aims with internal and external partners to fully leverage available expertise.
  • Evaluate and assist potential partners in the implementation of external tools and technologies.  
  • Provide input to scope requirements and feasibility for future robotic applications.  
  • Build and iterate prototype designs to incrementally improve performance.
  • Help key stakeholders understand the performance and limitations of AI Systems.  
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to ensure a successful path to product deployment.  

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD level degree in a machine vision, computer science, data science, or related discipline. 
  • 7+ years' experience utilizing image-centric deep learning to solve robotics problems. 
  • Subject matter expert in the fields of Machine Vision, Sensing, Point Cloud analysis and how these apply to robotics control. 
  • Demonstrable experience with techniques involving Object Detection, Image Classification, Convolutional / Recurrent Neural Networks, and Hyperparameter Tuning.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and C++ programming, including (Pandas, Numpy, SKLearn and PyTorch or Tensorflow).  
  • Expert experience in ROS (Robot Operating System) and Linux. 
  • Familiarity with MLOps and related technologies for developing, maintaining, and deploying models.
  • Familiarity with software version control for platforms (Git-related services). 
  • Experience with project management and team leadership.
  • Proficient English written and verbal communications skills required to collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.
