Job Description
Locus Robotics is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work directly as a member of our product development team, applying their mechanical expertise to implement novel solutions on solving immediate customer challenges. This ideal engineer works independently on pieces of systems and product, with a team of mechanical engineers, and with other engineering disciplines to ensure a cohesive system design. The candidate must be capable of a great deal of autonomy in respect to designing, fabricating, and testing new designs, as well as launching new products into production and supporting systems fielded at customer sites.
Our team of engineers take challenging and partially understood problems and create solutions in an expedited manner. Managing technical progress and documentation with contract manufacturers along with their suppliers will be included. Opportunity in end-to-end design of new accessories and supporting existing parts/products in production or manufacturing environments a big plus.
Job Description:
- Capture valued inputs from customers (both internal and external) and generate sub-system requirements.
- Utilize a set of requirements to design solutions quickly, carefully, and independently preempting issues of manufacturability and future maintenance.
- Design and execute tests to find the best approach, and communicate best business practices.
- Transform tested conceptual solutions into robust product designs in coordination with engineering, operations, customer and contract manufacturers.
- Design to release of components and systems using SolidWorks. Creo a plus.
- Develop production and support documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and maintenance instructions.
- Worked in production type environment, ECO’s, drawing packages, familiar with volume purchases.
- Work with suppliers, machinists, contract manufacturers, and shippers to guarantee that the right electromechanical system is assembled and functional with attention to schedule requirements. Scheduled driven environment.
- Perform test and verification of prototype systems.
- Perform system design analyses, including reliability, design-for-manufacture, design-for-assembly, and cost-takeout.
- Identify new suppliers to meet new product manufacturing processes and cost targets a plus.
Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience/degree, MS a plus.
- 7-10 years of related work experience, preferably in advanced designs from initial concept through initial production.
- Significant experience using 3D CAD, preferably SolidWorks, Creo - including 2D drawings, Weldments, Simulation, and PDM
- Experience designing motion control systems with sensor, actuators and complex mechanisms
- Experience designing systems used in industrial settings a plus
- A working knowledge of ASME drafting standards including GD&T, (Y14.5-2009)
- A working knowledge of DFM/A, Six Sigma, and statistical tolerance analysis
