Business Intelligence Developer
- Full-time
Company Description
At Loblaw Digital, we know that our customers expect the best from us. Whether that means building the best, most innovative online shopping experience, or designing an app that will impact the lives of people across the country, we’re up for the challenge. From our office in Downtown Toronto, we’ve created leading eCommerce experiences in the online grocery shopping, beauty, pharmacy, and apparel spaces, and we’re only just getting started.
Job Description
You’ve heard this before: With rapid growth and a laser-focus on shipping, data and insights were capabilities that fell off the priority list. This is natural when you’re focused on building a product, especially with tight timelines and commitments. Fast-forward to today, we’ve grown a lot and created three businesses in three years! We’ve got data in multiple spots - e-commerce platforms; web analytics platforms; order management systems; customer survey platforms and more; but we haven’t tied them together.
Our business teams have made great efforts to gather, cleanse and organize this data in order to gain insights into how our customers are using our products. Naturally this doesn’t scale. We’re at a point in our journey where there’s a focus on organizing our data and getting the cross-system view of what our customers are doing.
To this end, we’re looking for an expert at building and maintaining data pipelines to help expand our BI platform by integrating data from internal and external sources into our Oracle data warehouse as well as feeding other application systems that depend on the data warehouse for reporting and analytics. The successful candidate will also empower our business by training and enabling business users to self-serve data from our platform to drive insights and fact-based analytics.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and scale quality and performant data pipelines using our in-house data framework
- Build and implement robust data models and structures using dimensional modeling techniques
- Be a subject matter expert on the entire stack of our BI framework
- Support reporting and analytics needs from all areas of the business. For example: Developers, Product Managers, Product Designers, Merchandizers, Marketers, and Operations Analysts
- Help us in our mission to be a hypotheses-driven product development organization which means data is at the centre of everything we do
- Be an enabler by showing others how to master the reporting tools available to them, thereby empowering our team and getting us to scale
Qualifications
- 5+ years of solid hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, etc.)
- 2+ years of Python experience building automated data pipelines that source and push data across various application and data systems is a must
- Experience with ETL/Data Modelling/Star Schema design and development
- Hands-on experience with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g. Tableau, Qlik, Microstrategy, etc.)
- Experience working with sourcing and feeding data from REST/SOAP apis (e.g., Omniture, Salesforce, SurveyMonkey, etc.) is nice to have
- Experience with data pipeline automation using a code focused scheduling tool (e.g. Rundeck, Airflow, Luigi)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Solid stakeholder management skills
- Proven team player that will work well in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Experience working in an agile environment
- Strong desire to learn and to push the boundaries of what can be done to better empower our business with data
