Job Description

What you’ll do:

As a marketing leader for open source projects at the Linux Foundation, you will be pivotal in representing our of our most important Foundation brands.

This role provides an incredible opportunity to be the marketing leader for unique technology projects under the Linux Foundation's diverse family of open source projects. You’ll be responsible for developing the marketing and communications strategy for - and in collaboration with - your project communities and leading its execution throughout the year. Your marketing plan(s) will encompass a combination of activities that support integrated campaigns that leverage content development, virtual and live events, PR/communications, social media, web/landing pages, account-based marketing (ABM), and digital marketing. You won’t be alone in this effort, as you’ll work closely with a group of networking industry thought leaders and program managers, as well as be supported by a team of marketing pros that enable our automated demand generation tools, deliver creative services, manage event venues and logistics, and provide analytics and reporting.

Marketing activities at the Linux Foundation help expand awareness of incredible innovations that our community builds together. New and amazing stories of innovation, creativity and community come to us every week. Your marketing expertise will also help drive new membership opportunities and more engagement in developer communities, spread knowledge of impactful releases and collaborations, drive participation at virtual and physical events, and encourage training and certification on new technologies. 

This position is for an individual contributor, no direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a marketing leader for an incredible group of open source projects and communities. In this role you will lead marketing as you grow your subject matter expertise in open source technology spaces and within industries.
  • Build and execute marketing plans that include integrated campaigns, events, content, and communications.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and community leaders to support the Marketing Advisory Council meetings (agenda, execution, minute taking, action items).
  • Support building and maintaining the Project brands (logo, design elements, color palette, and branding guidelines).
  • Coordinate the maintenance, evolution, and optimization of the Project websites.
  • Develop clear and engaging content that is consistent with the Foundation’s brand image and addresses both business goals and community needs. Content may include web pages, case studies, videos, digital promotions, newsletters, blog posts, press releases, and social media.
  • Develop PR campaigns and media relations strategies to complement marketing activities.  You will also serve as the project's central PR contact while facilitating interviews and story support from executives and community leaders 
  • Develop and maintain a steady stream of new leads for member sales enablement activities. Organize and manage hand-offs to the LF sales team.
  • Monitor, track, report, and analyze performance of marketing activities and channels on a regular  basis.
  • Work with our central demand gen organization to further optimize, qualify, and reach audiences through paid, owned and earned media. 
  • Support virtual and physical events with branding, messaging, promotions, and onsite activities such as booths, demos, and content development. 
  • Ability to travel internationally to support Project events and offsite meetings

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of marketing experience in B2B business, preferably in open source or at a software business.  
  • A collaborative team player able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively with different groups of global stakeholders and personality types.
  • Experience working with complex tech a must; and experience working with open source communities preferred.
  • Experience managing communication to B2B communities.
  • Previous hands-on experience in email marketing, Hubspot experience preferred.
  • Ability to interface at all levels maintaining strong working relationships across cross-functional teams. 
  • Professional executive presence and poise and ease with presenting to executive-level audiences.
  • Can-do, hands-on attitude for team collaboration and participation at all levels, from strategy to execution.
  • Domain Knowledge, Marketing Program Development skills, Messaging, Digital, Social, Speaking, Event marketing and Communications are all part of this role.
