Job Description

FINOS seeks a highly organized, self-motivated individual who will define, drive and help implement strategic projects within the FINOS ecosystem. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering on key milestones for FINOS’s strategic initiatives by developing relationships and working with a broad range of individuals in FINOS member firms, project teams and the wider FINOS community. You will provide support to bring both new and existing projects and initiatives to fruition. You will also collaborate with FINOS team members to grow the community, plan events or campaigns, and develop new business opportunities. This role requires an individual with a strong background in project management and with experience working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. 

The ideal candidate is a confident, energetic, well-spoken, and detail-oriented individual who can interact with a diverse set of stakeholders; someone comfortable being the face of the organization at internal and external events, who can work well within a small team, handle wide-ranging responsibilities and tackle both strategic and tactical work with enthusiasm. This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer of the Foundation. New York is the preferred location, but other remote locations, especially on the US East Coast, will be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Focus on specific FINOS Strategic Initiatives:

    • Manage the planning and delivery of FINOS strategic initiatives and projects.

    • Establish appropriate project operating models and work across FINOS functions to create and coordinate plans, activities and tasks.

    • Maintain project plans, risks and issues; report progress to stakeholders, suggest remediation plans, as necessary. Deliver verbal and written updates to the team, to senior management and to the Governing Board.

    • Author promotion and education materials to foster community engagement, increase project participation, and to communicate business and technology benefits of FINOS projects.

    • Collaborate with Marketing and Member Success to create communication materials for FINOS members and community at large.

    • Engage in Business Development for specific strategic initiatives and work with senior management to develop and nurture engagement.  Create written and recorded content, such as pitch decks and information materials.

    • Engage with external associations and relevant open source participants (individuals, firms, etc.) to increase recognition and adoption of FINOS projects.

  • Focus on the broader FINOS ecosystem:

    • Develop strong community relationships in order to deepen FINOS engagement and promote collaboration on existing and new projects in the FINOS landscape.

    • Participate in Foundation events and be a FINOS advocate. Attend and promote FINOS at both internal and external conferences/events.

    • Work with the FINOS team and Community to grow and harmonize the FINOS technology landscape in support of the Foundation's mission to deliver value through open source collaboration to solve industry-wide challenges.

    • Provide support to FINOS projects and project teams in various aspects of the project lifecycle, enabling them to become active, thriving open source projects.

    • Identify relevant financial services-focused industry associations and consortia where FINOS can be an effective partner in delivering value through open collaboration.

    • Uncover joint opportunities for our Community in collaboration with other Linux Foundation projects (e.g. CNCF, Hyperledger, etc.) and services (e.g. events training, mentorship, LFX platform, etc.).

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in project management, business development, and marketing or communications 

  • Very strong project management skills: experience in project planning, prioritizing, executing tasks and communicating results

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail, with strong multi-tasking skills

  • Able to operate at a big picture/strategic level and to flex between tactical and strategic tasks

  • Able to thrive and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, virtual, multi-stakeholder environment

  • Customer-facing experience, with focus on service delivery and improvements

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills

  • Able to work collaboratively with members, developers, team members, and internal functions (Marketing, Legal, Member Success, etc.); comfortable interacting with a wide range of community members, from executives to technical programmers

  • Creative, positive energy, self-directed, amiable, able to ‘Move Quickly’, and composed under pressure

  • Proficient in working with Google collaboration tools (Google Docs, Spreadsheet, Calendar, Drive)

  • Previous experience and/or desire to work remotely; able to manage tasks, time and schedule with limited supervision; flexible to occasionally work during early/late hours to accommodate various time zones

  • Must be able and willing to travel nationally and internationally (primarily to the US, UK, and continental Europe)

DESIRED

  • Bachelor degree or higher from a college or university

  • PMP training or knowledge of project management best practices and tools

  • Experience in building campaigns or content for technical or financial services audience

  • Experience in business development

  • Understanding of financial regulations and/or US or European regulatory regimes

  • Experience working with regulators or compliance departments

  • Experience working in financial services, especially in fintechs or regtechs 

  • Experience in data modeling, lineage and governance

  • Experience with open source software and communities

  • Previous participation in industry consortia or collaborative efforts
