Job Description

The Head of Community Programs serves as a key member of the CNCF team, leading community marketing initiatives that broaden the scope and audience of cloud native. They do that by running existing key initiatives - such as Kubernetes Community Days, Student outreach program, CloudNativeTV, the marketing committee - and conceptualizing new programs and strategizes for our communities of interest. In addition, the Head of Community Programs s an eloquent communicator - both written and verbal - who creates thought leadership on various technology topics and supports the marketing team with a deep understanding of the cloud native ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Cloud Native: You are a member of the cloud native community and understand its culture and ethos. You have a network within the community and enjoy spreading our values and culture across organizations. 2+ year experience in the community desired. 

  • Stewardship of our values: You understand and uphold the CNCF Code of Conduct and interject if you observe it being infringed.

  • Writing skills: You are able to communicate about cloud native technologies and the community in a succinct and engaging manner. You enjoy writing and have produced blog posts and other writing pieces about our ecosystem.

  • Presentation skills: You love telling the cloud native story whether that be in 1:1 conversations in-person or online or representing CNCF on the stage at conferences 

  • Community engagement skills: You have experience building programs leveraging CNCF community, staff, ambassadors, or members. 

  • Tooling and iteration experience: We require a working knowledge of GitHub, Google Suite, and Slack. We also are a very iterative team and constantly evaluate and iterate on inflight programs. 

  • Ability to keep a flexible schedule: CNCF staff and the community are spread in 187 countries. This position requires you to be willing to adjust schedules to collaborate with people when necessary. A big chunk of the team is present in the US with a sizable representation from the EU. We also have a China team and folx working from Thailand and New Zealand. 

  • Ability to travel: Able to travel, including internationally, several times a year to staff and attend events.

  • 5+ years of experience working in technology

Additional Information

Responsibilities:

  • Lead top community engagement initiatives at CNCF:

    • Evaluate existing programs every six months to enhance, streamline, or sunset programs

  • Build new programs to encourage CNCF adoption in new technology and industry verticals and expand our community to increase our diversity, equity, and inclusion

    • Current programs include:

    • Lead for Kubernetes Community Days program with Events and other team members

    • Directly recruit and collaborate with event organizers to ensure all planning and execution is smooth, along with Events team support

  • Live streaming at CNCF

    • Define the livestreaming strategy and run operations

    • Organize the CloudNative.tv program

    • Strategize and leverage CNTV for events 

  • Lead CNCF student program

    • Grow the next generation of the cloud native community through scholarships and programs engaging to students

  • Grow thought leadership for CNCF:

    • Represent the foundation as a speaker and content creator 

  • Support the team by creating materials and collateral: 

    • Create talks and presentations that tell the story of what cloud native is and where it is going for events and conferences

    • Enable the community to maximize their experience with cloud native:

    • Host new member welcome calls 

      • Introduce new members to the CNCF community and walk them through the benefits they are eligible to receive 

  • Support the monthly Marketing Committee calls

    • Provide monthly updates to the Marketing Committee on your initiatives 

    • Co-host the monthly meeting with marketing pod members

  • Work with an awesome set of colleagues in Marketing, Member Programs, Business Development, PR & Comms, and Projects to build the next generation of cloud native
