Job Description
The thriving, global community in the FinOps Foundation is hungry for knowledge, training and connection with their peers. We’re hiring a Head of Community to support and grow our Ambassador and programs, with the mission of increasing engagement in the community both virtually and at regional events. The more people who give and get help, the higher the tide rises for all in the industry.
This role will report into our Executive Director, J.R. Storment, co-author of the Cloud FinOps book. This leader should be passionate about the idea of raising the voices of our Ambassadors, helping to scale community programs and helping our practitioners achieve success in their careers in FinOps.
This leader should have deep knowledge of the FinOps space and be able to shine as the model Ambassador and a key face of the community, plus strong community-building and strategy-creation skills, as well as a desire to work in a startup-speed environment.
Responsibilities:
Instigate conversation and encourage discourse in the community’s forums through scalable programs that leverage our community of diverse experts
Recruit, assess, retain and manage a diverse community of Ambassadors and Speakers around the world.
Constantly look for opportunities to enrich the FinOps Framework with real world stories and learnings from the community
Nurture long-term relationships regional Ambassadors to continually improve the engagement and experience of our vast international community through regional events, meetups and initiatives
Coach and support our Working Groups (WGs) and Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in their building of community and open source standards
Play a key role in the development of content for our events, both virtual and hybrid
Partner with cross-functional internal teams (FinOps Framework, Education, Growth, Digital, etc) to align cohesive strategies across to ensure the Ambassadors and Community have the tools needed for success.
Understand the success of each regional/vertical community using a data-driven approach, and tracking against engagement and growth goals.
Act as a model evangelist for both the Ambassador program and the FinOps community at large
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
This is a senior role for a professional who already knows Cloud FinOps concepts intimately.
- Minimum 3+ years direct experience with Cloud FinOps (or related cloud financial management disciplines) at scale
- Minimum 7 years in a professional role related to cloud, finops or technology
- Deep SME knowledge of Cloud FinOps concepts from direct work running a cloud practice or working with large customers doing so
- Exceptional public speaking skills to engage and inspire the community
- Strong program management skills
- Strong community-building skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- We value experience in Cloud, Community and FinOps above specific educational degree requirements
- Ability to think analytically, understand metrics and adjust strategy accordingly
- Comfortable navigating different FinOps topics and norms of any geo/sector/topic
- Passion for creating and executing on strategy, inclusion and excitement
- Persuasive communicator in multiple forms, especially in writing and presenting before groups of all sizes
- An insatiable desire (and the ability) to learn more
- Ideal candidate is a Slack, Zoom and LinkedIn power user who is passionate about how we can help individuals in our community to advance their careers
Work Environment & Team
This is a fully remote role with significant travel requirements (when/where regional COVID restrictions allow) to regional events. Preferred primary timezone is between PST to EST (US/Canada), however GMT/CET (UK/EU) are workable for an exceptional candidate but will likely require many late evenings.
You’ll be the 7th Linux Foundation FTE dedicated to the FinOps Foundation program, which is made up of a fully remote team in 3 countries. An ability to work autonomously, asynchronously and at startup-speed is critical. Each person on the team has a broad purview and all operate at both the ‘doer’ and ‘strategist’ level.
