Job Description

As a Principal Staff Software Engineer at LinkedIn, you will architect and lead the implementation of regulatory and compliance solutions across LinkedIn’s marketplaces – by keeping up with the latest global regulatory landscape spanning privacy, safety and AI regulations.
As a key leader in the organization, you will research, build software, anticipate and influence architectures in other parts of the company, influence how products are built at LinkedIn, while continuing to deliver member value. You will design technical solutions for LinkedIn’s ecosystem across all product surfaces to create a cohesive and compliant experience for our members. You will act as the bridge between business and technology to help translate compliance objectives into technical specifications, design the architecture and ensure the solution aligns with our regulatory obligations. This involves collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the company and being comfortable operating in a matrix environment. Responsibilities:
- Serve as a senior technical leader driving the long-term regulatory and compliance engineering strategy across LinkedIn’s marketplaces. Ensure that compliance needs are met through well designed and effectively implemented technology solutions.
- Stay ahead of evolving privacy, digital-platform, and AI regulations, translating new and anticipated obligations into pragmatic engineering direction
- Architect solutions that complement both existing and new systems at LinkedIn to enable compliance by design.
- Partner closely and across many different types of engineering teams to raise the bar for regulatory awareness and compliance by design and ensure e2e compliance.
- Analyze complex systems problems and drive meaningful engineering and product decisions by balancing the risk, compliance and member value.
- Define and own the roadmap of bringing regulatory best practices to critical user journeys for LinkedIn’s products to help capture and improve the experience of LinkedIn’s members/customers
- Support external regulatory engagements to translate complex technical challenges into understandable terms for technical and non-technical audiences
- Spearhead a multi-year initiative to transition and transform LinkedIn’s infrastructure to ensure continuous compliance even as regulations change and evolve.
- Lead technical discussions on the impact of regulations on Engineering at LinkedIn, what the function should evolve into over the next 3–5 years
- Deliver key insights, executive level reporting across the cross-functional engineering teams to enable the right business decisions around improving regulatory best practices
- Act as a force multiplier by mentoring engineers, influencing technical direction across orgs, and contributing deeply to culture, hiring, and technical excellence
- Lead regulatory incident response and post-incident reviews to identify root causes and implement preventive measures. Develop and maintain processes and procedures to ensure timely resolution of issues and minimize impact on members and customers
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree or higher in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical experience
- 10+ years of programming experience in Java, C++, C# or similar programming languages
- 7+ years of experience building large-scale distributed applications
- 5+ years in an architect or technical leadership position
- 5+ years experience delivering engineering solutions in a regulatory, compliance, privacy, or adjacent domain
Preferred Qualifications:
- BS and 12+ years of relevant work experience, MS and 10+ years of relevant work experience, or PhD and 8+ years of relevant work experience.
- Previous experience in a Principal Software Staff Engineer or equivalent role at a high-growth or web-scale technology company
- Hands-on experience building engineering solutions for large compliance initiatives - Examples include, DMA, GPDR, DSA, AI Act.
- Hands on experience building engineering solutions for internet scale products.
- Proven success designing and leading architectural transformations at internet-scale companies
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience influencing across multiple orgs and leadership levels
- Deep knowledge of various data systems, particularly around management of data.
- Track record of setting long-term technical strategy and driving systemic improvements to meet regulatory and compliance requirements
- Growth mindset to keep up with evolving technology and regulatory landscape and agility to adapt quickly
- Business acumen to understand the business outcomes and align technical solutions with compliance requirements while balancing business outcomes.

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The pay range for this role is $215,000 - $352,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
