Job Description
This role will be based in San Francisco or New York.
At LinkedIn, we trust each other to do our best work where it works best for us and our teams. This role offers both hybrid or remote work options, meaning you can work from home and commute to a LinkedIn office, depending on what’s best for you and when it is important for your team to be together, or this role can be performed remotely in most locations in the country of employment.
LinkedIn is looking for a journalist or blogger with a passion for technology news to oversee content on the topic. The beat will cover a mix of technology industry news, developments in the consumer technology space and help cultivate the best voices in the industry. The right candidate is immersed in this segment, preferably has been actively covering it, and is entrepreneurial about the ways to engage with an audience around technology news and views.
This technology-focused editor will be joining a global team of journalists who help curate, create, cultivate and circulate the content that flows through LinkedIn. You’ll concentrate on explaining the changes happening in technology for an audience of both industry insiders and tech enthusiasts. And you’ll have amazing tools to do this: Your articles will reach the largest collection of professionals ever assembled — on and off LinkedIn; your curated headlines from trade and national press will reach the right targeted audience; and the professionals you cultivate in the industry — from CEOs to those just getting started — will develop their voices and reach an audience hungry for their insights.
You’ll also develop the skills necessary to build a career that lasts: how to analyze data, how to both report and promote your work and how to work on a cross-functional team committed to excellence.
The editor should have experience editing and/or reporting on issues that are relevant to the technology space; a strong news sense; excellent (and fast) writing skills; a great ear for stories that others should write; and, most importantly, an entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate is as interested in shaping a product as shaping a story.
Primary responsibilities:
Write 2+ articles/week offering insight into what’s happening in the world of tech while consistently sharing curated updates and news with this audience as well;
Engage your source base daily to generate quality conversations on industry trends and items in the news on the platform
Forge relationships with top voices in technology to make sure their content is feeding into LinkedIn;
Help oversee part of the daily news experience for LinkedIn;
Generate analysis on what’s working and what’s not, and come up with ways to increase engagement through content.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
5+ years of experience writing and editing business news in a traditional newsroom setting.
Preferred Qualification:
Experience writing content for or about the technology industry, particularly consumer technology.
Experience with original and curated news.
Large social media presence.
Experience producing multimedia content.
Comfortable and experienced working with data.
Possess deep relationships within the tech community.
Ability to shape products and stories.
Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
Possess a growing and strategic mindset.
As required by C.R.S. § 8-5-201(2): (Colorado only) The minimum pay for this role is $82,000 base salary. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
The total compensation package for this position may also include annual performance bonus, stock and benefits. For additional information, visit: https://careers.linkedin.com/benefits.
