Job Description

Lincoln Consolidated School District is seeking exceptional applications for Commissioned School Security Officers (CSSO). The CSSO will provide an armed component to the overall School Safety and Security Team. In addition, an idealcandidate should be committed to high standards for safety and security procedures.

Essential Functions: The following duties are representative of performance expectations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The CSSO’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

·      Prevent unauthorized visitors from entering school buildings and/or loitering on school grounds.

·      Provide armed security for all occupants of school buildings and grounds.

·      Oversee and participate in security inspections and assessments of school facilities.

·      Monitor a reporting system designed to detect security issues in school facilities.

·      Make recommendations to correct identified security issues.

·      Inform counselors, parents, teachers and school administrators of student behavior issues.

·      Serve as liaison with police, fire and other municipal departments to ensure maximum use of their services in order to provide adequate security and safety.

·      Prepare reports and assist in special assignments as directed.

·      Use computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.

·      Assist with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations.

·      Read and respond to email communications.

·      Abide by district security guidelines, directives, and post orders.

·      Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or directed by supervisors.

·      Assist administrators and staff in crisis and emergency situations.

·      Attends court as necessary when related to school district legal matters.

·      Report suspected bullying to building principals or designees as required by Arkansas law and district policies.

·      Report to proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.

·      Provides on-going training and assistance to site-based staff in matters of safety and security services.

·      Abide by all state and federal laws and regulations.

·      Adhere to all policies of the District.

·      Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

·      Comprehensive knowledge of state and local policies and procedures regarding the administration of security/school safety programs.

·      Comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.

·      Comprehensive knowledge of the current literature, trends, methods, and developments in the areas of security and school safety.

·      Comprehensive knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

·      General knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization, and administration.

·      Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or boards.

·      Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements.

·      Ability to use common office machines and popular computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance.

·      Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and to develop meaningful reports from them.

·      Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·      Three (3) years of experience in law enforcement. Retirement as a certified law enforcement officer from an Arkansas law enforcement agency is preferred

·      An Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred or an acceptable level of equivalent experience or job knowledge.

·      Must be 21 years of age

·      Must be willing to submit to and pass a drug test upon request

 

Other Requirements:

·      Must pass a preliminary criminal background and child maltreatment check

·      Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times while around students and other staff members.

·      Must possess a valid driver’s license

·      Must successfully pass a psychological exam.

·      Must be able to successfully complete sixty (60) hours of initial training if required by law, including a written exam, and pass an additional background check administered by the Arkansas State Police.

·      Must meet all requirements to be a commissioned school security officer pursuant to Arkansas law (including, without limitation, Ark. Code Ann. 17-40-337) if required to carry a firearm.

·      Must furnish own firearm and ammunition that meets approved parameters set by the school district.

 

Computer Skills: Experience with Windows Server OS (Ex.2003, 2008, 2012, 2016), Windows 7, Windows 10, Active Directory, Group Policy, vSphere, VMware, Hyper-V, HP/Aruba switch configuration, VLAN, DHCP, and other related technologies. Familiar with Apple products (macOS and iOS)..

 

Knowledge and Expertise:

·      Proven experience working with security, and emergency medical services’ systems, procedures, and protocols for organizational effectiveness.

 

Additional Information

Work Environment:

·      Work is primarily conducted in an office or school setting. Prolonged stationary work and attention to desk or computer tasks are required. This position is cognitively demanding and requires especially well-developed professional social skills and communication skills.

·      Movement in and about schools and office buildings/grounds is a frequent requirement and the ability to carry or lift items 75 lbs. or less.
