We are seeking an experienced Java Development Leader with a proven object oriented development background to inspire and challenge a team of talented multidisciplinary engineers plus QA in evolving and extending the game engine platform powering our latest generation of games.

Your main areas of focus will be;

• Technical leadership:
  • Ownership for management of a squad, software quality and delivery of assigned/accepted commitments.
  • You will work with the team, product management, technical architects and Head of Engine/Platform engineering to re-imagine our platform, improving the game engine development/deployment experience.
  • Ensure engineering best practice principles are applied at all times.
• Team leadership
  • Coach, support and develop the team into a truly self organising unit.
  • Mentor team members and build a healthy productive culture.
• Software Development
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, testable, high quality, and reliable code.
  • Review and refactor existing code with the aim of learning and improving our platform's reliability, robustness, performance, and operability.
  • Maintain living documentation reflecting our evolving technical solutions.

• 2+ years people management skills including experience managing a development team
• 5+ years of demonstrable software engineering with a primary focus on Java and Object Orientated Design
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
• Experience interacting with customers, external partners and business stakeholders
• Experience with Java Spring Framework
• Disciplined approach to testing
• Good knowledge of large-scale website or application architectures and technology stacks
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns
• Experience with various development methodologies and practices; Scrum, TDD, Kanban/Lean, SAFe.

It would also be great to see these skills/experiences:

• Performance tuning skills, including refactoring, code profiling and monitoring
• Automated testing and CI.
• Scripting skills: Bash, Python, Groovy.
• Release management and configuration management experience.
