Job Description

General Description  LifeTies, Inc. is seeking a full time Mentor Coordinator to provide mentors for LGBTQ+ youth in the community.  The primary responsibilities include but not limited to the recruitment, screening, training and monitoring of mentors for youth and young adults.  The Mentor Coordinator will ensure the social and academic achievement goals of youth who identify as LGBTQ+ are met through mentoring.  Some evening and occasional weekends may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Implement plans to expand the mentoring program for youth who have experienced rejection or bullying from their families and/or peers due to identifying as LGBTQ+.
  • Provide support for mentors in working with their mentees and families
  • Respond to individuals inquiring about the Mentoring volunteer opportunity.
  • Conduct Informational Sessions for potential mentors.
  • Conduct presentations in the community with the Manager of Volunteer services.
  • Identify, coordinate and participate in opportunities for outreach to include speaking engagements, community events, etc.
  • Provide pre-service training to potential volunteers adhering to the Elements of Effective Mentoring Practices and the+ LGBTQ supplement.
  • Identify substantive content areas to enhance staff and mentors knowledge of LGBTQ+ resources for youth and young adults as well as identifying experts to deliver the knowledge.
  • Work with LifeTies Center Social Worker to provide access to resources in the community for mentees and their families to support the youth.
  • Administer assessments to mentees
  • Track all recruitment, screening, training and mentor activities in database.
  • Track recruitment goals, efforts and achievements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of data.
  • Provide quarterly reports on outcomes.
  • Serve as Liaison between mentee and mentor.
  • Attend service provider meetings as needed in the community.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Executive Director

 

 

 

    Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BA in social work, psychology, gender studies, public health, education or related field.
    • Experience working with youth who have experienced trauma.
    • Experience with providing training to others.
    • Valid driver’s license and able to pass criminal background check.
    • Experience working with youth who identify as LGBTQ+ or are questioning a plus.
    • Experience in volunteer management and/or mentoring programs a plus.
    • Experience with working within school districts and/or child welfare system a plus

    Salary and Benefits

    Salary: $38,500-40,000 annually
