  • The development agenda of western Nigerian (DAWN) commission is a development coordination and management institution, set up as a strategic and action-oriented response to the desire and determination of the south western states of Nigeria to create regional competitive advantage. The DAWN commission is focused on fostering inclusive and aggressive economic growth that leverages the socio-economic potential of the southwest region comprising Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Osun Ekiti and Ondo.
  • The DAWN commission is the strategic driver that has been set up to orchestrate and foster regional cooperation and integrity as a catalyst for achieving sustainable and accelerated development of Western Nigeria.

Job Description

  • Develop and implement the commission’s internal and external communications strategy.
  • Undertake the necessary monitoring and evaluation activities in order to determine the success or otherwise of communications strategies.
  • Contribute expertise in the areas of media and online engagement and public outreach to the commission’s overall strategic planning.
  • Reach out to stakeholders and raise public awareness to positively influence public opinion around key issues.
  • Ensure that all output including articles, briefly papers’ and key correspondence copy is in the commission’s agreed standard.
  • Coordinate and manage public outreach and education events, including lectures, workshops and conferences.
  • Deliver communication services for the commission, including media coverage, effective public relations and the production and distribution of communication arising from the commission’s activities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of first degree in any discipline
  • At least seven years experience in corporate communications (preferably in the not-for-profit sector) or journalism.
  • Exceptional written communications skills, with ability to adapt style to suit different communicating media and audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrable experience of communication complex and nuanced issues to the media
  • Versed in the use of social media.
