About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join Lendi Group and provide commercially focused legal advice across our diverse and evolving business.
Reporting to the General Counsel, you’ll work across mortgage broking, lending, buyer’s agent services, franchising, technology, data and AI-enabled initiatives. You’ll partner closely with senior leaders and teams across the Group, helping them navigate complex legal matters, manage risk and confidently bring new ideas to life.
This is a broad, hands-on role for a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys variety, solving complex problems and finding practical ways forward in a fast-moving environment.
Job Description
- Be a trusted legal partner: Provide clear, pragmatic and commercially focused advice to senior leaders and teams across the Group.
- Support strategic initiatives: Partner with the business on new products, projects, acquisitions, regulatory change and improvements to our systems and services.
- Shape responsible AI and innovation: Advise on the design and governance of AI-enabled tools and processes across legal, regulatory, contractual, privacy and ethical considerations.
- Lead commercial contracting: Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of supplier, technology, distribution, service and other commercial agreements.
- Navigate complex regulatory matters: Advise across consumer credit, AML/CTF, competition and consumer law, franchising, real estate licensing, corporate, employment, intellectual property and related regulatory matters.
- Support customer and regulatory matters: Provide legal guidance on complex customer complaints and support engagement with regulators, government agencies and industry bodies.
- Protect customer and business information: Advise on privacy, confidentiality and the appropriate management and use of customer information.
- Make legal support smarter: Help improve the Legal team's processes, templates and tools to make legal support more efficient and scalable.
- Manage external counsel: Oversee external legal providers, including scope, quality and budget, while identifying opportunities to reduce external legal spend.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
- 6+ years’ legal experience, ideally gained within financial services, lending, fintech, technology or another highly regulated environment.
- A law degree and current practising certificate.
- Strong commercial judgement with the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical advice.
- Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements.
- Ability to proactively identify and manage legal and regulatory risks while supporting commercial objectives.
- Confidence advising and influencing senior stakeholders on complex or sensitive matters.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- High levels of judgement, confidentiality and organisational discipline.
- A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and the ability to build trusted relationships across the business.
Nice to Have
- Experience within mortgage broking, lending, banking, fintech or financial services.
- Knowledge of the NCCP regulatory framework and Australian consumer credit regulation.
- Exposure to franchising, real estate, technology, privacy, AML/CTF or competition and consumer law.
- Experience advising on AI, data, digital products or emerging technology.
- Experience engaging with regulators or industry bodies such as ASIC, ACCC, AFCA or MFAA.
- Experience managing external counsel and legal budgets.
