Job Description

During a milking as many as 200 data points are gathered, varying from data about milk production to cow health. Along with feeding data, the farmer receives an increasingly complete overview of farm management. Based on this data, the farmer makes various decisions: Which cows need extra attention? Do the cows still get the right ration? Do I have to dose some more or less feed?

Analyzing and optimizing feed management is one of the areas where data is a useful tool. By means of various reports and graphs and extracting data from it, the farmer makes certain decisions. But what does this data really say about the performance of the farm. Can we see relationships between DM intake, milk yield and rumination minutes? This is what you are going to investigate.

At first setting up a research planning yourself in consultation with various colleagues from Lely, after which you are ready to go into the field yourself. Start a conversation with the dairy farmer, dive into the data and find out which relations are visible regarding feeding management. An internship assignment in which practice, theory and data are combined.
