Position Overview
Leidos Australia supports the Military Survey activity of the SEA1770 Rapid Environmental Assessment project for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). We provide the RAN with underwater hydrographic data to help ships maneuver and deploy safely in unknown maritime environments.
Job Description
We seek undergraduate Electronic or Mechatronic engineers to work part-time as Assistant Field Service Representatives (ASFR).
This role involves maintaining and providing technical support for advanced systems (hardware and software), including:
- Hydrographic Survey Vessels
- Weather Stations & Weather RADAR equipment
- Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
- Hydrographic systems
- Portable Computing Systems
Working under the support and direction of the Senior Maintenance Manager, the ASFR collaborates with the customer’s technical team and provides hands-on support to end-users.
The ASFR will learn to
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on the listed systems.
- Investigate and resolve customer-reported system defects.
- Document and report maintenance activities.
- Conduct fault-finding and troubleshooting on supported systems.
- Provide input on potential system enhancements.
The role offers opportunities for skill development through on-the-job training and formal education, making it ideal for a motivated individual pursuing relevant technical qualifications.
Qualifications
Ideally, the successful candidate will demonstrate
- Hands-on experience with electrical/mechanical systems and the use of hand tools
- Active enrollment in a university program or pursuing a TAFE Advanced Certificate, Associate Diploma, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma in Electronics and Communications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency with PCs, including software installation, auditing, and firmware upgrades.
However, we would look favourably on people who have
- Telecommunications knowledge, including LANs and radio networks.
- Strong written communication skills for reports and correspondence.
- Maritime experience.
- Planning and scheduling abilities.
- Capacity to work both independently and within a team.
Additional Information
Candidates must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Clearance.
