About the role

The Cost Estimator will be responsible for developing labour and input cost estimates for commercial responses and programmes of work. The position will involve working with stakeholders and subject matter experts to construct estimates that are robust, well documented and follow best practice estimating methodology. The Cost Estimator will be responsible for ensuring estimates are aligned with project scope and compliant with contract terms and will be an integral part of the Estimating/Bid Development team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure successful build-up and documentation of estimates within delivery timeframes.
  • Identify metrics and benchmarks and conduct labour and cost analyses to develop high-quality estimates.
  • Ensure risks, opportunities, dependencies and assumptions associated with the technical solution are captured in estimates and documented.
  • Maintain Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation from tender to final contract acceptance.
  • Work with Commercial and Procurement functions to gather quotes and input costs for inclusion in estimates.
  • Work with Schedulers to develop the program schedule in line with program milestones and deliverables.
  • Develop and instil continuous improvement and lessons into estimates by reviewing actuals and outcomes of project delivery.
  • Maintain estimating data and norms for use across projects and future programs.
  • Share and adopt best practices and identify and contribute to process improvement.
  • Contribute to the Cost Review process and collaborate with the Pricing function for reviews.
  • Assist with writing and preparation of business winning proposals.
  • Assist the Pricing function in responding to clarification queries and audits by providing documented justifications of estimating methodology.

Qualifications

Relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated experience in similar estimating roles. Engineering qualifications are desirable

  • Minimum 3 years of estimation experience or project delivery experience in complex IT, Defence or comparable industry. Including understanding of project scheduling and Work Breakdown Structures
  • Applied knowledge of 3 point estimating.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
