Your New Role

As a System Engineer, you will provide support to the Engineering and Planning Team and will be part of the broader Chief Technology Officer Team. The focus is on toil reduction, process improvement, configuration management automation and the gathering of metrics for the company’s core service platform. We have process ownership for the ITIL disciplines - Capacity, Availability, and Service Continuity Management in addition to providing Integrated Logistics Support for the Defence Customer! We also provide Engineering Review Board recommendations and approvals for all changes in to the wider Centralised Processing Platform As A Service. It's a busy and challenging environment where every day is different. Working from our Canberra or Melbourne office, your duties will include:

  • Ensure the provision of an effective IT Support service including network management, installation of system wide software, management of mass storage space, tuning of system performance, oversee installation and backup recovery, and make recommendations for purchases of hardware and software
  • Assisting other team members with the focus areas described above
  • Looking for opportunities to automate team activities and recommending solutions
  • Detect, isolate and resolve automated information system problems
  • Become familiar with the system tools used by the team
  • Deploy and administer new infrastructure in support of new capability for the team
  • System monitoring and reporting
  • Provide overall management of large scale operational systems
  • Undertake systems administration tasks in support of major databases and applications
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and prepare appropriate reports
  • Maintaining system documentation
  • Implement and utilise enterprise-wide monitoring platforms to support the technical towers and our end customer
  • Identify problems in the infrastructure environment and resolve them accordingly
  • Work the respective business technology groups to administer, support and manage existing infrastructure deployments and functions
  • Provide Subject matter expert (SME) IT Support advice on projects

 

Qualifications

About you and what you'll bring 

You're a team player with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for learning. You have experience in server, active directory administration and support, within a medium to large scale environment. You must be level-headed, remain calm in crisis situations and coordinate/communicate with users as well as other technical towers in a complex and highly governed environment.

Essential

  • Experience with virtualization technologies including VMware management suite, including the automated and orchestration products
  • Extensive experience administering a multi-domain/Active Directory user environment over a WA and other related technologies such as DHCP, DNS, etc
  • Networking, Storage & Backup experience

Desirable but non-essential experience includes

  • Experience with Citrix VDI deployments and the integration with McAfee products 
  • Understanding of modern server hardware concepts with knowledge of NetApp, EMC & Cisco hardware
  • Knowledge of SCCM, SCOM, Splunk, SharePoint
  • ITIL v3 understanding
  • Experience in creating Knowledge articles

To be eligible, you must be an Australian Citizen with ability to obtain a baseline security clearance.

The role is scalable to accommodate flexible working.  From full time, four days a week or shorter days we are more interested in the right person with the right attitude than adherence to arbitrary clock defined presence.
