Job Description

The Trim and Fabric Buyer handles all aspects of the negotiations, including color, pricing and logistics. Ensures to have the best prices for trims and fabrics and is able to meet deadlines.

Critical Functions

1. Business Management

  • Works with the Designers to understand the trends and trims required.
  • Reviews with the Designers the fabrics they are looking for and presents options.
  • Does research and development for treatments and trims.
  • Meets with domestic suppliers.
  • Maintains the catalog of completed trim searches.
  • Looks after trim sourcing and development and maintains inventory.
  • Negotiates costs and volume buys.
  • Determines the quantities to be ordered (metering) in comparison with the consumption of previous styles (estimated).
  • Purchases trims and fabrics and follows up to meet delivery schedules. Performs receiving and distribution of trimmings upon delivery.
  • Follows up on fabric approvals and recolorations (lab dips and strike-offs).
  • Communicates with oversea suppliers, local suppliers and internal departments to ensure that follow-ups are completed within the required time frame.
  • Negotiates and purchases required supplies for the operation of the sample room, Patternmakers and Fit Technicians.


  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position, retail industry is an asset.
  • Experience in trim and fabric buying
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Able to work effectively under pressure.

Working Conditions and Environment

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Might have to work overtime during certain periods of the year.
  • Works in a sitting/walking/standing position.
