Job Description

The Director of Facilities is responsible for developing and executing systems and procedures to promote and ensure the safety, maintenance, development, cleanliness, and upkeep of the school campus(es) in compliance with current safety standards and policies and school strategic goals.

This individual maintains the school’s physical buildings and manages all building maintenance, campus grounds and custodial staff. The role requires the ability to work independently to move projects forward with momentum, accuracy, integrity and always keeping the child at the center of school initiatives. This position collaborates closely with the Business Office on budgetary and contractual matters, with Campus Administration on daily campus operations and with the Head of School and Leadership Team on strategy as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Facilities will:

  • Manage the physical operation of the entire school and its programs.
  • Manage the careful maintenance of buildings, grounds and cleaning programs that keep the school’s appearance in exemplary condition.
  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day facilities operational management
  • Provide strategic campus planning support
  • Manage a team of facilities assistants, technicians and custodians.
  • Ensure facility readiness for day-to-day operation as well as frequent special events. 
  • Coordinate projects around the school calendar including supporting third party facility rentals as well as after school, weekend, and summer programs.
  • Work closely with school Leadership, Campus Managers, custodial and kitchen staff and facilities assistant within the facilities department.
  • Arrange bids and develop specifications for all outside contractual work as needed.
  • Oversee the work of all outside contractors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and budgetary restrictions; oversee and vet invoices and purchase orders
  • Ensure completeness and correctness of invoices and project estimates.
  • Coordinate payment of invoices with the Business Office
  • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Head of School.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team, owner representative and other third parties as needed on construction-related projects/activities within La Scuola properties.
  • Stay up-to-date on all required environmental, health, and maintenance standards as required by law and work with the COO to ensure compliance with all regional, state, and federal regulations and laws as they impact the school.
  • Assist HR team in providing emergency preparedness training and resources to personnel and students; Execute and oversee crisis management plan, including fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills.
  • Work with CFO on managing risk for the school, including assessing and managing the risk at the school and ensure the health and safety of students, personnel and visitors in their use of facilities.
  • Ensure that all safety and security systems are fully functioning; work with the COO on logistics of school’s crisis management plan.
  • Recommend and implement process changes to drive efficiency.
  • Effectively communicate and escalate potential issues appropriately.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience in an educational or similar institution
  • Demonstrated success in managing facilities
  • Strong supervisory, organizational, technical, and analytical skills
  • Proven success developing and balancing an annual budget
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal in English and Spanish preferred

Additional Information

Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

La Scuola may be able to offer a teachers exchange visa for 3 years, for teachers with a BA in Education / Pedagogy / teaching credentials in their country of origin AND a MINIMUM of two years of teaching experience in a primary/elementary school.

Prior to beginning work and as a condition of employment in order to comply with the law, all employees must provide documentation to prove eligibility to work in the United States.

In addition, the final candidate will need to pass both Criminal Justice Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance and a physical exam, and provide a recent copy of a negative TB test and other immunization records.

Estimated annual salary range: $95,000 - $105,000 depending on credentials, qualifications and experience.
