Job Description
We have an opening for a NEST Readiness Coordinator to oversee and execute LLNL’s Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST) responder readiness program. This role requires familiarity with DOE Order 153.1 and LLNL’s compliance with these requirements. You will administer and maintain readiness and training records, execute routine readiness checks and notifications using established procedures, and prepare recurring reports for program customers and management. Additional key aspects of the program include coordination of the on-call watchbill schedule, determining which qualified responders are assigned to on-call periods based on established eligibility and coverage requirements, and verifying required training and readiness items are current prior to assignment. The position coordinates updates across institutional systems and stakeholders, resolves routine issues by interpreting applicable guidelines, and escalates discrepancies that could impact readiness or on-call coverage. This position will be in the NEST Program Element within the Global Security Principal Directorate’s Nuclear Threat Reduction (N) Program.
In this role, you will
- Participates in the development, maintenance, and improvement of the NEST responder readiness database and associated tools.
- Partner with the Readiness Program Lead, assess and analyze established readiness support processes and workflows, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Respond to customer questions and resolve routine readiness administration issues by interpreting and explaining procedures, guidelines, and manuals.
- Maintain, review data, and summarize results to support resolution of readiness discrepancies.
- Maintain service area records, databases, and documentation for responder readiness and training tracking.
- Collect, validate, reconcile, compile, and report readiness information across systems, such as, ARMS, TRAKEN, WCD, and related tools.
- Prepare routine and standard reports for customer use and management decision-making, including completion status, discrepancy tracking, and readiness summaries.
- Monitor routine readiness checks, notifications, and follow-ups; track completion and document exceptions.
- Maintain an escalation contact list/tree for routing readiness issues to the appropriate points of contact.
- Build, publish, and maintain the LLNL Master NEST on-call watch and deployment roster, determining on-call assignments using established coverage rules, qualification criteria, and availability inputs from Deployment POCs and responder organizations.
- Maintain documentation of responder requirements (on-call expectations, baseline training, gear and communications requirements as applicable), updating content per established guidance.
- Support upkeep of the NEST Deskbook by performing updates, maintaining version control, and routing edits for review/approval per defined process.
- Maintain a database used to document NEST facility capabilities, resources, and configurations.
- Coordinate onboarding/offboarding administrative steps for contractor and subcontractor personnel that support NEST readiness, such as, access requests, account tracking, required documentation, and following established procedures.
- Track issuance and inventory records for communications devices, such as,pagers, cell phones, Starlink units, and coordinate updates with supporting organizations.
- Support tracking of vendor/contract readiness-related information by maintaining records and reporting actions to the appropriate contract or technical points of contact.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- This position requires an Active DOE Q clearance (or active Top-Secret clearance) with ability to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information access.
- Experience coordinating responder readiness activities, workflow, and processes in- service operations, customer service, operations support, logistics, or mission support environment.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, databases, and documentation using tools such as SharePoint lists/libraries, spreadsheets, or similar systems.
- Experience in collecting, validating, and reporting operational data with attention to detail and data integrity.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document processes and requirements clearly and explain procedures to customers.
- Experience in tracking and coordinating multiple, parallel tasks and following through discrepancies to closure.
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and multiple stakeholders.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license.
Qualifications We Desire
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, information management/technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience in technical operations, logistics, mission support, or emergency/incident response environments.
- Familiarity with LLNL and/or NEST-associated systems and processes, such as, ARMS, TRAKEN, WCD, paging/cell systems, or similar tracking and communication tools.
- Experience with reporting tools, such as, SharePoint and dashboards.
- Experience in preparing recurring operational status reports and creating basic graphical summaries, charts, and tables.
- Experience supporting and improving operational processes and documentation including standard operating processes, deskbooks, and playbooks; editing, version control, routing updates; consolidating requirements; and developing new tracking methods or tools.
Pay Range:
$82,140 - $100,608 Annually
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Security Clearance
This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire. Also, you must have the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access. Please note that your current active Q or Top Secret clearance with DOE or another agency does not guarantee DOE SCI access approval; if you are denied access, you may be subject to reinvestigation of your existing Q or Top Secret Clearance.
