At our site in Alexandria, Minnesota, we design, manufacture, test and provide service support of LGC, Biosearch Technologies laboratory instrumentation and consumables. Products produced and distributed from this location enable scientists to make the world a safer place and enables customers in areas such as developing and identifying new plant hybrids, testing and tracking of food products for food safety, and research to support human diagnostic testing. The Alexandria site represents a centre of excellence for Biosearch Technologies in the areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service by supplying and supporting customers and team members around the world. Our services are accredited to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Systems and Design to join our team in Alexandria, United States. In this role, you will take ownership of designing and architecting complex systems while providing technical leadership and aligning with strategic business direction. You will work collaboratively across teams to develop system solutions that meet organizational objectives and drive innovation.
- Design and develop automated laboratory systems that include; motion control, thermal control, fluid handling, user interfaces, protocol inputs, and log file outputs while considering reliability, performance, and serviceability.
- Develop comprehensive system design documentation, including Concept of Operations, Design Inputs and User Needs, System and Sub-System Requirements and architectural baselines.
- Analyze complex technical requirements and translate them into detailed design solutions
- Develop and execute test plans including concept / characterization testing, as well as design verification and design validation.
- Participate in and lead technical design reviews and provide feedback to review teams on system implementations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, manufacturing operations, supply chain operations, customer service teams, and quality assurance to ensure alignment on system objectives.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers on systems design best practices and technical methodologies
- Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and process that optimize system or design process performance and efficiency
- Identify and resolve system design risks and provide performance optimization through FMEA and other detailed systems analysis
- Comply with ISO-9001 and ISO-13485 design control standards and best practices across the organization
- Document system design decisions, trade-offs, and decision rationale for future reference and knowledge sharing
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of professional experience in systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, control engineering, software development or related technical roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in systems design, systems architecture, technical trade studies and design control methodologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex technical challenges into design solutions
- Experience designing high-performance systems with critical performance requirements
- Experience in Requirements Management Processes including ConOps, Design Inputs, System and Subsystem Requirements development.
- Excellent technical communication skills and ability to document complex systems clearly
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environments
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and quality
- Experience with performance optimization and scalability analysis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud architecture and distributed systems design
- Experience with Requirements Management Tools (JAMAConnect, DOORs, Siemens Polarion, TeamCenter, Cameo Systems Modeler, etc.)
- Proficiency in system modeling and design techniques and tools (e.g., NoMagic, Cameo, SysML, ARENA, MatLab, Python, SolidWorks, Creo, PSpice, or equivalent)
- Experience in Mechanical, Electrical or Software Development
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and continuous integration/deployment pipelines
- Experience with Agile or Scrum Task tracking methodologies and tools (JIRA, Teams, Asana etc.)
- Domain expertise in medical device, laboratory automation systems, data analysis systems.
- Experience mentoring and developing engineering peers.
Additional Information
The typical pay range for this role is:
Minimum: $82,000 USD per year
Maximum: $111,000 USD per year
This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for the Minnesota based position. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as: experience, skills, and location.
This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus program. Participation in the bonus program is not guaranteed, and bonuses are awarded at the discretion of the company based on individual and company performance results.
