Job Description

The Senior Director of Manufacturing will serve as the leader of a cluster of operational sites dedicated to product manufacture and delivery in one of the following product portfolios or technologies: Nucleic Acid Chemistry (NAC); Quality Measurement Testing (QMT); Instrumentation; Oligos; Workflows & Reagents. This individual is a key driving force, often leading a set of manufacturing sites spanning multiple regions or countries, to ensure effective people management, alignment of manufacturing priorities, and achievement of operational goals in support of the broader business and customers.

In partnership with respective HR, local site operational leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders, this individual is expected to foster a positive work environment and a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and accountability.

To perform this job successfully, you must be able to perform each of the following essential functions satisfactorily:

  • Serve as the key leadership contact for operational site(s) under direct remit, driving consistent business priorities across relevant manufacturing operations and leadership
  • Lead relevant manufacturing cluster to deliver the organization’s customer and operational activities, while also ensuring compliance with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory standards
  • Responsible for personnel activities of direct reports including budgeting, staffing, training, performance evaluations, mentoring and coaching, and goal setting including setting employee objectives linked to business initiatives and other key performance indicators
  • Develop and execute operational plans that will enhance productivity and profitability through the delivery of excellent standards of customer satisfaction
  • Develop lean operational processes to reduce cost, improve efficiency, quality, safety and demonstrable improvement in the customer experience
  • Ensure manufacturing consistency, quality conformance, and compliance to all product specifications
  • Ensure appropriate programs and features are in place to attract and retain professional talent required to achieve the organization's goals and objectives
  • Motivate and engage workforce, identify and nature critical talent to support business goals
  • Ensure a culture that values and promotes compliance, customer satisfaction, safety, quality, teamwork and goal achievement
  • Lead local and global projects outside of direct daily operational remit
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with other functional leaders, including but not limited to: Commercial, Marketing, Global Supply Chain, Quality, IT, HR, Finance

Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge in a relevant field of study (life sciences, business, engineering), ideally evidenced by a Bachelor’s degree from a certificated educational institution
  • Demonstrated manufacturing operational experience and proven success leading and developing teams within a first-class life science, biotechnology, or manufacturing organization
  • Demonstrated experience and success in managing complex, multi-department operations, preferably spanning multiple manufacturing sites
  • Proven ability to operate in a global environment
  • Demonstrated experience within multiple product manufacturing environments serving a variety of customers
  • Previous success implementing or managing programs driving continuous improvements and efficiencies in operational processes and deliverables, specifically regarding gross profit margin
  • Prior management of annual multimillion-dollar capital budgets
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and use of a web browser
  • Ability to analyze data from financial reports and operational systems (ERP, CRM) and develop appropriate solutions for action
