Job Description
Job Purpose
The Laboratory and Site Assistant provides general support services for both the laboratory environment and general site. For the lab environment, they are responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining lab glassware, plasticware, and some general equipment. They provide support by restocking general lab supplies and reordering supplies as needed. They work under direct supervision and rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform this function.
On the general site level, they provide support by monitoring and reordering canteen supplies (i.e. coffee, drinks, sugar, etc.), office supplies, and working with Site Lead to coordinate occasional visitor lunches, etc.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleans, washes, and handles laboratory glassware, labware, and general equipment according to specified procedures.
- Maintains appropriate on-hand inventory of laboratory supplies.
- Place orders to replenish supplies.
- Monitor, restock, and reorder canteen and office supplies.
- Provide support for occasional site visit events.
Supervisory
No direct supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience, and Technical Skills
- Ability to read and follow all SOPs, Work Instructions, or other Guidelines
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to understand and comply with all laboratory and site safety policies, including PPE and handling of biohazardous materials.
- Ability to be self-motivated and work independently and as a part of a team.
- Solid communication skills
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- This is a junior level position, no formal experience is required.
- Any experience in a laboratory setting is welcomed but not necessary.

- Ability to stand for long periods of time. Repetitive motion using a keyboard or certain laboratory equipment for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to lift and move material weighing up to 40 lbs.

- Agreeable work environment typical of an open office setting and laboratory setting with some exposure to noise from office machines and other equipment.
- Most lab work is performed with containers that held biological or chemical hazardous materials in a laboratory environment.
