Job Description

Job Purpose

The Material Handler I provides support for the accurate and efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of LGC Clinical Diagnostics products in accordance with cGMP and pre-established guidelines and procedures.  They utilize a high level of attention to detail to satisfy both internal and external customers.    Overall work priorities are defined and assigned by the immediate supervisor, but a degree of flexibility and self-prioritization is exercised to achieve day to day tasks.  Work at this level is typically performed under supervision from the Supervisor.  The position assists with identifying process improvements to established procedures.  Material handing is a central service for internal customers in the Operations, QC, R&D, and QA departments as well as contributing to serving our external customers through outbound order fulfillment.  The Material Handler I will be a primary user of SAP to manage and maintain accurate material inventory information.  Participates in routine housekeeping of responsible areas i.e. loading dock, receiving location, storage areas, etc. This position may rarely require occasional off hours work to meet business needs. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Load and unload deliveries throughout a shift, ensure materials are accurately accounted for, routed, and stored at correct temperatures and locations.
  • Pick and pack customer orders for outbound shipment.
  • Perform goods receipt and material movement transactions within ERP system (SAP).
  • Create, perform, and execute cycle counts as required.
  • Support internal and external customer requirements.
  • Perform troubleshooting of inventory issues as needed.
  • Assists in identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities.

Supervisory

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience, and Technical Skills

  • Effective communication and collaborative team skills.
  • A self-motivated drive and ability to effectively work with others across the entire business.
  • High level of attention to detail, including excellent record-keeping and documentation practices.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement processes (CIP) such as lean manufacturing.
  • Capacity to be productive in a fast-paced environment which requires the ability to adapt positively as priorities change.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a warehouse/distribution setting preferably in the biotech industry or in handling low temperature materials.
  • Experience in a regulated environment is strongly preferred.

  • Requires prolonged standing and walking.  Repetitive motion using certain equipment for long periods of time.  Frequently required to lift material weighing up to 50 lbs and move material of higher weights by use of hand truck.
